Old school , hi-tech? Full range crossovers, or bi-amped? Repairable? Recone-able? Good in soffits?

Seems like they get good comments from audiophiles, even though they seem to be one of the less popular older JBL speakers.
They are most likely re-foamable, but there might not be a specific surround available, you might need to figure out a generic surround to use.
Also seems they are sealed boxes, and some have mentioned these seeming slightly light on bass.

More of a mid field , have a audiophile cult following, but to me they sound quite dated! Want some reasonable big speakers ? By a pair of the Radian 12in coax with the 2 in HF and crossover build a box using bassbox pro! Just heard a pair with some way over priced tube amp Sounded pretty damn good , in many ways better than the same guys big tannoys!

A pair of these was the only thing left on premises of the property I purchased, as referenced in my other thread " A Heartbreaking Story For Gear Lovers ". Being installed in a soffit in the control room, the people who cleared out everything probably just didn't want to bother. I realize they are not the most desirable anymore and being installed in a soffit is probably not the most accurate way to use them, but I decided to leave them in place and use them, if for nothing else, the ambiance and thrill factor. I will use my smaller JBL powered monitors to do actual mixing. The foam surrounds in both speakers on the bass and mid-bass drivers were all shot and I wanted to repair them before setting up the rest of the equipment in the control room. This is a shout out to Orange County Speaker Repair in Garden Grove, California. I sent the raw drivers out to them to be refurbished. They had quoted me a price which I thought was reasonable. I got a shipping notice this week that they are on the way back here and the invoice was much lower than quoted. When I asked if that included all four drivers they said yes, they didn't have to do everything quoted so they were able to save me money. I feel this needs mention, since they could have charged me full quoted price and I would not have known the difference. Stand up business practice should be applauded. Check them out if you need speaker repairs.

The only thing I didn't like was that they "twisted" inside the outer insulation and looked really lumpy.

So I re-installed the repaired drivers over the weekend and fired them up. They sound pretty darned good in the room they're in. Nice job by Orange County Speaker Repair.
