My Guitar Tech told me today that all new Gibsons will be deliverd with automatic motor tuners. A student of mine is using an SG with them, and they are a true pain. They do not stay in tune, they are damaged faster as you can say no. Some jourmalists already mentoined that GIBSON will loose Generations of traditional players. The answer was that the players have to be taken to the next level.
Due to the fact that guitars are never perfect in tune and that many players compensate in tuneing as far as they can, those autmatic tuners make no senese. To me its just a stupid decisson. In the last year I just heard nothing as trouble about Gibsons. I ask myself why they ruin a traditional high end brand.

Its simple there is nothing new to invent with the E-Guitar...... some CEO do want to see this fact..... but....... I bet many kids will buy them.....  ? |

I cant understand Gibson, because those tuners are expensive, and they have a low quality. Yesterday I talked to the biggest retailer in Berlin. The repair department confirmed to me "Nothing but trouble with those automatic motor-tuning heads" Gibson is such a traditional name, I ask myself what are they thinking? To me it feels like someone from the US would tell me that Mercedes-Benz is going to use Hyundai motors in their cars. The end of a German brand to me....... and Gibson is to me the US Brand in E-Guitars. They should not try to compete with the shit we get form the east. Instead of delivering us stupid motor tuners they should create a new Guitar...... its 2015... If they want the connection between analog and digital there are many more options than those bad working tuning heads. SIGH |

How does this tech "know" this? It's just such a terrible idea, I need to see something solid before I'd believe it.

As an option, I can understand, but as standard, it's a disaster. They've lost their way. All companies need a basic, better, best model, and that's it. Basic, Les Paul Studio, Standard, uhh.. Les Paul Standard, Best, custom shop 59'/60' recreations with some custom options, and signature versions.. Done. You need a book the size of a novel to keep up with all the lame variations.

Gibson lost customers years ago with baked maple fingerboards and shady hardwood buying. The finishes have really gone downhill. I have some older Gibsons, excellent. If you want a Les Paul that's new, look at Epiphone, those come with Grover tuners and stay in tune, for less.

I also ran into this the other day at my local retailer, very bizarre. I don't think it's an altogether bad idea if tuning presets could be saved and banked it could make for an easier live set without the use of multiple instruments. The ones that I saw in use seemed to work half decently but I wouldn't want to trust something like that.

If you're going to spend $3000 on a new Les Paul you should get whatever tuners you want.

pull em off and put on standard tuners and or all the more reason to buy an older gibson. WTF buy a new guitar and buy new tuners... Good times for competitors... There are some luthiers they do build nice ones for less than 2k. So why to buy mass production if I can get a custom guitar... |

what ever floats your boat but if what you want is a custom sg, easy enough to install original tuners, but hand made would be sweet !!

add to the list Richlite fingerboards. Basically particle board, and on the high end stuff no less.
Oh yeah, and rocker tenons filled with glue.
Besides, the main reason people are out of tune is finger pressure to the tuners wont do crap to fix that and seizure fingers like Kirk Hammett and C.C. Deville.

Anyway bought an Ibanez this year, gave it my tech, he changed a few things and the result was a wonderful guitar.
3 piece neck, rosewood fingerboard a very nice sunburst finish.
It saved me a lot of cash the Gibson was 3 K the Ibanez with the tech did cost me 800.
Question....how long can Gibson survive by the old Image users have in mind.
