Our band, Junction City, has been tracking with a Shannon Rhoades CV4 modded mic and it's the best mic I've ever heard. We were in an Austin studio tracking bass and drums. The engineer wanted to try and keep some scratch vocals so we used one of his mics that he said sounded great on female vocals. After the session we went back to our home studio and did some tracks with Shannon's mic. Not even close. The other mic sounded nasally and thin. Shannon's mic is all there. The vocals sound great dry and with no eq. Simply an amazing mic! I need to hear that CV4 after the Shannon mod.

251 Update to all interested ,
1 Though I have built many many many Mics, I still haven't learned that it's time consuming and always a learning curve on the simplest of things.
2 Whenever you think they will be done add 6more months, then add 2 more months for being a smart ass still thinking that you know something. 3. they are truly going to be done soon lmfao, jk they are at the Platers and they are being assembled up to that point
4. *********Other good news, I will be getting my 1st prototype run of C12/251 capsules. ******* this has been in the works what seems like. Forever They are chambered just like the real ones, other than some revIons That will sonically make a difference. Over the years of fu** up i know what not to that sounds like ass.
5. Also im going to have have a few " MINi ME 251" small tube point to point, or midget 251 or political correct small Mics that will be available very limited. They will look like someone shrank a 251 .. honey I shrank the mic ( old school reference ) if interested let me know
6. I think that I mentioned that I made 10 more grills from scratch because I simply did a better job not perfect but closer lol... This was a huge delay. But they are getting plated

But they are getting plated Shannon my friend first rule of building anything : Everybody uses just in time inventory , it really means never on time! We invested a ton of money in a computer program that would anylize vendors production / delivery schedules to learn when and how much to order to keep stuff in stock only to learn that all it took was a screw vendor in Tiawan being late to knock off about 60 vendors !

hey Sinsay, you're amazing, man. thank you so much. a couple words about your mic: -it is open, detailed. it comprehensively captures all in a most flattering and pleasing way. in a heavenly way. it is even across the freq spectrum. -the proximity effect is very beautiful. -when it gets hit harder with signal (my vocal), it never pinches. it never folds up. it very gently distorts or overloads in a most pleasing and flattering and beautiful way. (repeating adjectives here. doing the best I can, as we know talking about music is like dancing about architecture.) -think rich, full, euphonic, honey, molasses, thick......think about all the excellent sounds that are in your head, that you're trying to get to come out out of your mouth singing.......and now think about a mic that actually picks that ALL up.....and does it in ways, that make you crazy happy. think top level, high class. think mojo that can make you laugh and cry. the capture of emotions. think magic. thats your mic, man. thank YOU again Sinsay!!!

BTW - was over at Shannon's today...he opened up the modded CV4 I bought from Cowboy and he tweaked. It was made for Cowboy's voice and while it sounds great, I've found it to pinch just the slightest bit on me. He basically broke it down and started over and holy damn...this is the absolute best one he's done for me. It still needs to be tuned a little - it's even a little forward in the 1khz area - which as you all know would normally be a nightmare for my voice. But just like with vintage mics and great analog EQs, Shannon's caps improves the quality of the mid frequencies. At least, that's the only way I can explain it. Once I pulled out about 2-3db around 900-2khz, it was absolutely freaking fantastic. No pinch and it handles sibilance like a vintage mic. The top is there, but it's not a problem. We've talked since I recorded with it earlier today, and Shannon wants to try and nail it by seeing if he can tame the 1khz range...but damn, I don't know. I'd really hate to screw it up.

How many cv4 have you had modded? I imagine Shannon's work makes these line of mics even more unbelievable! I remember reading your posts a few years ago and the posts influencing me to check out the miktek. Since then, I have demoed the cv3, cv4, c7 and really liked all three mics, with the cv4 sounding the most pleasing. At the time, I needed some dental work to repair botched dental work and every take was full of sibilance due to this. Even then the miktek mics represented a lot for their respective price and always struck me as well made quality mics. The c7e they make thru the RND 511 sounds eerily close to a u87 IMO. I want to hear Johnkenn sing into a u67/ m269 with whatever the rest of your signal chain is currently! IMO the way those mics handle the 800-2khz is magical...

John, we can get it it's that it was my bday and I only have to finish it up. Also that build was for cowboy so we needed to focus on you're voice. I'm glad to hear that you digging it. We will finish up the last little bit this week. I have to admit it sounds good your voice is one of the hardest to dial in that middle honk is a bitch to get rid but we almost got it all gone. Hit me up when you have time so we can get it done thanks

I personally wouldn't mind waiting a bit more, if that's what it takes.

OK here's my game plan. Just like how many different mics custom .. Mitek...k...... Blah blah blah. Know matter how quickly i want it done I know that it's going 2 be longer than we all would like. I did speak to the machine shop today and there will be 20 prototypes coming my way not quick enough. Right now they're cutting and chasing the threads for the chambers. I want a very high tpi (threads per inch) or in this case tpm. Working with them to achieve that now
So what in the microphone hell does this mean. I am going to proceed forward with my Edgemount capsules I currently use. When the new ones arrive and available it can be a option that will be additional cost. The cost of these are more expensive than when we made a variation back in the KAT days. So to give you a ideal the cost back then for just the rings the plates no gold no labor was over $250 . Now with some revisionsas as well new material your looking at $$$ that wasn't padded into the microphone not to mention all the other things that I didn't add enough padded into the microphone not to mention all the other things that I didn't add enough
A quick synopsis in
"ADD format " Attention deficit disorder
1 don't know how long it's going to be, so I. going to build them anyway with capsules I planned to use 2. When they do come in I'll have them be an option but it will require a few more bucks due to cost to make them .
hopefully that helps out the question instead of confuse you
