I did a quick test back to back with the two channels on my Dan Alexander, which do not really match each other, a channel of the Neve 1073 DPX, and a one from the better of my two TNC ACMP-84s. Using my FLEA 49. My thoughts: DA channel two is the darkest and most weighty of the bunch. DA channel one and the Neve are similar with a more weight in the DA and more clarity and punch on the Neve. The ACMP-84 is definitely of the same family, but it thinner and less three dimensional.
Based on your description, I bet the BAE would be similar to your DA. The BAE was fat and rounded up top to my ears. Real thick sounding. I may check out the Dual Channel BAE 1073 MP sometime down the road. It would have cost 6k for (2) full BAE 1073 channel strips. I just couldn't do that right now.

Ok, so push the gain up to 55 and dial back the trim and this box has freaking mojo.

55 dB is where the third stage kicks in. 😉

55 dB is where the third stage kicks in. 😉 I literally saw your note on the other thread and decided to push the unit up there. That's where it starts to sound like my Dan Alexander 1272.

I liked the Stam a lot when I tried it, and at that price it would be worth it, but I don't have a year to wait. Vincent, having tried the Stam do you feel its on the level of the Dan Alexander for instance or that top tier level of 1073 NEVE clones?

I wish I had more time to play with the Stam in my own space, but I really liked it. I also have a number of friends recording with them and what I hear always sounds great. If they were more readily available I’d probably grab one. As for the Dan Alexander, it’s a re-racked vintage 1272, so it’s a little ahead of the game from the get go.

Don't wanna derail the thread, but I love your voice Vincent. Your DA pre sound special too.

Thanks skav! I feel like I’m finally able to dial in “the sound” I’ve been searching for since my journey started.

Just found this thread. Amazing singing Vincent and very interested in your pre-amp comparisons. Your Dropbox file was very interesting. I thought they all sounded great. I’ve just ordered a Neve 1073 dpx. How are you enjoying yours now?
