It is my understanding that Dawn passed last evening. There are many on this board from Nashville, so I thought I would spread the word. She was a powerhouse singer and should have become as big a star as any Nashville has ever had. I was glad to see her getting the recognition she deserved via The Time Jumpers. This vid has the incomparable John Hughey on steel as well. Now I will miss hearing them both so very much.

Wow! Dave Martin inviting me to hear the Time Jumpers during a visit to Nashville was a big part of our decision to move here along with reuniting with Babbitt.

Very sad to hear of her passing. She left quite a stamp on music, especially in the traditionalists camp. She was sometimes called the heir of Kitty Wells' sound and style. And rightfully so. Loved her. Her music lives on.

Randge, Thanks for turning me on to Dawn Sears and The Time Jumpers. Sad she's gone, a huge talent. Makes me want to move to Nashville too, if that band plays every Monday night. I watched several clips after the one you posted, some with Vince Gill in the band. Great music is a wonderful thing.

I was knocked too when Cowboy linked to The Time Jumpers in a Vince Gill thread a while ago realgearonline.com/thread/608/vince-gill-guitar-slinger. That band alone would be reason enough for me to go to Nashville (which I hope will happen next year). So, really sad news.

I took Lee Hazlewood to hear the Time Jumpers back when Hoot Hester, Carolyn Martin, Johnny Cox, Dennis Crouch and Rick Vanaugh were in the band. His dad had taken him to every Bob Wills show in Texas from the time he was barely old enough to walk. Lee told me the Jumpers had the rhythm section of Wills' dreams. He was completely blown away.

I dropped in to Station Inn about a month ago on a Tuesday night...don't know who we were listening to, but it was awesome to hear some great bluegrass sipping on a cold one. That place is definitely a destination when you come here. Didn't Buddy Spicher play down at Wolfy's for years on Tuesdays? I remember going there to hear his Bob Wills tribute thing a bunch...

Yeah, John, I sat in and played straight steel a time or two with them. I miss the Turf, Music City Lounge and Wolfy's. They are all now Rippy's, which is owned by Steve Smith, who own Tootsies. Those clubs were a part of the best music scene that Nashville will never get back.

I had an amazing night last night. My wife and I saw the Time Jumpers in Annapolis, MD at the RamsHead Tavern and showroom. The Jumpers as of last night were “Ranger Doug” Green (vocals, acoustic rhythm guitar), Paul Franklin (steel guitar), Brad Albin (upright bass), Billy Thomas (drums, vocals), Kenny Sears (vocals, fiddle), Larry Franklin (fiddle), Andy Reiss (electric guitar), Jeff Taylor (accordion, piano), Joe Spivey (fiddle, vocals) and Vince Gill (vocals, electric guitar). You can listen to recordings of the Jumpers, but nothing prepares you for the first time hearing this music and performance happening right in front of you. I can only describe it as ecstatic. I have never heard so much talent and accomplishment on one stage at one time. They played about 100 minutes and it seemed like 15. We hated to see them leave the stage. I owe my exposure to the Time Jumpers to RGO and the people here. They probably wouldn’t have been on my radar without RGO. If at all possible, catch this band for yourself. It’s a piece of American treasure that will not be replicated, at least not with the life experience of these players. Just astounding. I've played this club a few times myself, most recently jamming with Robbie Kreiger and his band last year. www.dropbox.com/sh/586xwd84qr1o2j9/AACNrovzLU0yPXuQnXuoWExYa?dl=0

Experiencing them brought it home to me how screwed up American music is and the degree to which the people in our industry don't have a clue. I didn't know anything about this music so there was not a single drop of nostalgia involved. The original band was even a notch up from the current one. We've got to get kids experiencing live music again instead of cartoons.

Doug was the dapper man onstage. Made the rest of them look like roadies.
