Well I'm gonna try that one and the Red EQ...thanks for the headsup MrHolmes. You are welcome. I observed a few plugs over the last 10 years to end up with HW. If something is near to the real HW than it is Nebula. The Problem is the CPU power as well as playing live is not going to work. But I can imagine for professional mixing studios to use a Nebula server - external. I like it in a few situations such as reverb or the above mentioned method to get similar preamp sound on artificial instruments. Some of the EMT 140 stuff is impressive. I guess you can use those also with Nebula free… vnxtsound.blogspot.de/2010/01/so-finally-vnxtemt140-ready-emt-140s.html

Just a heads-up - Neb Pro v1.3.839 was released this morning. Just what I wanted for Christmas, a 64bit Mac version…

True, but I think I heard that it won't be until v4 for a AAX version. I'd be happy to be wrong, though...

OMG... avgatzeblouz YOU SUCK for introducing these to me. Now I have to buy them. Holy crap Downloaded trials of Ultramarine/Fairchild 670 and Purple/Pultec. They BOTH eclipse the UAD versions. And FINALLY I'm ablse to use Nebula without it being a complete hog and mystery.

But seriously, I've always wanted to give it a whirl but every time I tried to get a demo of anything I was plunged into a maze of broken web links, nonsensical instructions, internet dead ends and "FAQ" pages that made the head explode.

I've tried the freebies from acqua on my laptop and really impressed. Even better that some are still compatible with 32 bit xp. Damn.

Good luck, John ! This is the new part of your life, where your day will start looking at how much is euro vs Dollar ! ragan : You're totally right, it is messy. But if you go over it, you could even find it has its charm (not always, though). I actually really appreciate their business. They are super honest, you can email Giancarlo, the founder directly, and they are always willing to cut a deal if you ask. Once you buy a product, you get updates for free ! I had bought an Eq 2 years ago, they released V2 this week, I got it free. They resampled the whole thing, updated it to the new technology, and they added a compressor. I paid nothing, just installed it. The plugin is expensive, but the free updates, since they are never bullshit updates ala Protools make it worth it. And the sound, well... You heard it.

Yeah, I'm talking Acqua. 200€ for Pearl2 (180€ for now, preorder price). The most amazing Eq I have ever heard. It just smokes my Retro 2A3 on the 2buss.

I thought the Pultec was better than the UAD...really got some nice thump on a Drum Bus and Bass.

Aqua has been around for a while, I just saw the prices and remembered the PITA it had been earlier and never tried. The installation and authorization is still a little confusing...

I should slow my roll a little. I liked the UAD Harrison better...or equal. The UAD 670 and Acustica 670 sound different. I think I kinda like the tone and the room sound I can get out of the UAD one. The Acustica model sounds more like the Slate 670 in VBC to me. Bright and smacky...I can't get the Navy to generate a .ser file. The Acustica Pultec seemed to have a little more balls. Seems like a case by case basis so far. Not sure it's anything I can't TOTALLY live without yet.

The thing is Nebula and Acqua are different products (the way they are interfaced, because they are the exact same technology), and the beauty of Nebula is you purchase it once, and then you get crazy good libraries for 30$-50$.

I'll keep watching and waiting ( and buying hardware ).

Its funny to see this thread and the UAD thread active at the same time.
When I first worked with Nebula in 2011, it was the great sound and terrible pain in the ass factor that led me to buy a UAD Satellite Omni, which contained all of their plug ins. It bought me a couple of extra years out of my sputtering 2007 iMac (Nebula ate that thing alive).
Some of the UAD stuff was great (mostly unexpected things for me, like the Cooper Time Cube and EP-34) but I will admit I was a little underwhelmed. In the ensuing years, UAD released their 2.0 versions which have been fantastic. The updated Pultec suite, the 1073 and the Manley Vari Mu are real go to's.
Towards the end of 2016, I was struggling to achieve a desired tone when I bit the bullet and re-installed Nebula (I hadn't re-installed it when I upgraded computers in 2013). I was indeed able to find what I was looking for - namely the depth inherent in their 140 and BX20 reverbs, as well as the silkiness and depth of the Otari tape option in R2R. Those are pretty magical. Kind of ironic, given tapes and verbs are typically strong areas for UAD.
An above post cited using a UAD compressor for shaping a signal, followed by a Nebula counterpart for color - that does seems to work well (I've enjoyed the Henry Olanga mojo suite for that - just a huge group of really nice sounds).
Really, what a difference a few years makes - such lovely options. While I prefer the Fab Filter stuff for precision work, there are certainly some great choices. If Im going for Neve tone, I've found I can put different sims on a channel and drive each differently,. For instance, a UAD 1073 2.0 on vocals, the Kush N on keys, Airwindows Channel 4 on acoustic guitars, Nebula on drums, UAD Legacy on percussion, etc. This seems to provide the best of both worlds - common tone, with nice subtle variations.
Fun times! JMH

So - as far as the big red monster - the non-Aqua interface. I've just used a couple of free verbs, but they max my machine out like crazy. Any thoughts?

Gee on the UA thread, isn't this when someone would complain about the UA system ; you know the one that augments your host cpu so you have more processing power ? what a crazy ass idea !

All I've seen on the UA thread is that their plugs cost too much. And that's the truth.
