I have never used any of the Elysia stuff. There seems to be a lot of it for sale, used. To me, that usually means it didn't live up to somebody's expectations, wasn't a good value, or there were inherent problems with either the sound or the build quality. What is the general consensus for the Elysia stuff by the members here?

Who sticks a slew rate limiter on gear?

There’s a lot used because they’ve sold a lot of gear at a good price point. Also, they’ve issued an updated version of the Xpressor, so folks are selling the old one.
I owned the OG Xpressor, and it is a really powerful compressor. No box tone, but capable of crazy compression effects. Great on drums, bass, good on everything else.
I liked the Karacter, but found it to be sort of limited in terms of usability. When it worked for a part it was great.
Nvelope is fantastic, but I’m not convinced it is that much better than plugins, and for me it was a little tweaky for tracking.
Never used the EQ or 500 MPressor. MPressor seems cool but unlinkable, so not so cool for drums.

I had the the Skulptor cube build quality top notch at least the unit I had, but the sound just wasn't there for me. I sent it back because I was getting the same quality from my RME UCX II pre's and Totalmix Eq. Though I have been eyeing their 500 series Filter EQ

The nvelope is better than the plugin. I have both. It simply sounds better. Certainly, if one only has the plugin, it is still good. I have tried other Elysia gear. Everytime it has been really good, well built, and well priced.

That description of the Xpressor above is very much like my experience of the humble Aphex 651, FWIW. And they're still affordable

I really love our XFilter 500. Only issue I've had after probably 10 years is the left and right were slightly different levels. Contacted Elysia support, they responded very quickly (7 hours), and let me know there's trim pots on the circuit boards, got it all set, and it's perfectly matched level wise now.

That description of the Xpressor above is very much like my experience of the humble Aphex 651, FWIW. And they're still affordable the aphex 661 is even smoother on vocals because it has the compellor and drawmer dl241 like auto circuit. you can disable the tube section with a jumper.
nobody wants to make gear to solve dynamic problems anymore. they don't even want to make things to mangle dynamics anymore. it's all about selling a magic bullet for poor recordings. the stuff that is super smooth or has a lot of options to really mess up the sound doesn't seem to sell that well.
like these elysia have a linear release option that will really mess up the sound in a way that is probably super cool like on the oxford dynamics, reacomp (by default), and drawmer 1978 button. the mpressor is stock linear and has a pumpy antilog button too. how do you sell something like that to people who cannot use a normal compressor or even something with just input and output knobs like an la2a or dbx 160? I think the people buying most of this stuff don't know how to use a compressor in the first place ninworks which is why they sell it.

I have the 500 xFilter on my HW stereo buss along with a Mk 1 Silver Bullet and IGS S-type. Very happy with it. The SB does saturation and broad strokes EQ, while the xFilter is for shelving and precision tweaks. A quality piece of gear, IMO FWIW, YMMV etc
