I just received mine. These things sound incredible. Basically I have (2) transformers in the path while using it in my my Link Audio SL4K-E01; a Jensen SSL style transformer and the Royal Blue's Marinair style. Dialing it in gave me something similar to my Dan Alexander, but with more low end. I have to continue playing with levels and see how best to dial it in. I have the 5db high shelf bypassed at the moment. I may switch that and play around with that at some point. I did a quick test of all my Neve Style preamps. I tried to level match them as best that I could. Each of these is a separate take, but I've tried to be as consistent as possible. Recorded these with my FleA 49.
1) Link Audio SL4K-E01 2) Link Audio SL4K-E01 with Royal Blue engaged at around 30-35%
3) AMS Neve 1073 DPX (EQ not engaged)
4) Dan Alexander 1272 Channel 2 5) Dan Alexander 1272 Channel 1 (These both sound a little different)

They all sound pretty close to me. The Dan Alexander might be a bit more solid on the low end. Sounds good.

I love the Royal Blues. If you have them in the Mr Focus you can play the presence and tilt against each other for some great tonal combos.

The AMS sound the best to me personally.
But I like the Royal Blue combo as well.

It does. I like the Dan Alexander with my FET and TLM mics when I want some more weight. It’s nice with my tube mics in a simple arranged jazz ballad too.

The Royal Blues are fantastic. Currently running a kick drum and a snare through a Chroma/Mister Focus pair as I type this. A thing of beauty!
