Yes. Just be aware that the old ones are more fragile than the current version. And do not allow it to fall face down. I appreciate the heads-up. I had heard the older ones were more fragile so decided after I got mine and heard how good it was on everything else that it will never be in a kick drum. I plan to try it as an outside kick when I have more than one. It's indispensable so I'll need an extra if I want to do any experimenting. It's GREAT as a snare shell mic or as that over-the-kick mic the cool kids are talking about these days. Great as a room mic...the list goes on! When I was with FM Productions Beyer was our primary brand of mic. I've worked on a few of them.

So, I sent MD421 back as to me, the M88 sounded much better without a lot of work placing it especially on my Fender amps and my little Crate Vintage cube 20. It also sounded better on the Marshall combo I just got. That said, I just received an M201 to take the 421’s place. So, I am now officially a two Beyer mic household. .

Was the 421 the old version or new ? I find I prefer the sound of the original, but the consistency of the new ones works better on a kit.

I don’t track anything in my space but guitars and vocals so I wouldn’t need it as a drum mic. I like the beyers better for my purposes.

Gefells rule. I love mine. This M88 rules too. Amazing how much better I track stuff using decent mics. If you haven’t all ready done so, try the m88 on vocals. It can be perfect on the right voice. Emphasis on "right voice". I tried it on my voice and just loved it. It's now replaced the SM7 as "mic that stays setup for any time I'm inspired." I was so excited. Next session I had I put it in front of a really great singer and it sounded indescribably bad on his voice. Just terrible. If that was my first M88 experience I would have sold it! Thankfully, it sounds awesome on basically everything else except for this one dude, so all good!

The M69 is my favorite live mic (for me). As a band mate said, “It sounds like it’s been processed, but GOOD processed.”
