Well...I will be printing through the Burl from now on...made everything a little tighter and wider.

Compared to?
The Burl B2 compared to Avid HD I/O, both clocked to an Antelope 10MX, most definitely does something good, but I can’t easily put my finger on the difference in words.
I haven’t compared without the external clock, unfortunately.

Isn't tighter and wider a contradiction?

Isn't tighter and wider a contradiction? I meant made the bottom end less flubby, more punchy and the soundstage wider. Maybe not wider, but more separation between center and LR

Welcome to the club! Once you experience the imaging, warm solid lows, creamy mids and smooth clear highs, it's hard to go back to "transparent" (boring) converters. Better sound is just plain better.
Yes it's a matter of taste, but our taste is what they pay us for.
'Been capturing every mix and master with Burls since 2008. B2 Bomber ADC at first, now BAD4 or BAD4M cards in the Mothership. Works great for everything.
Enjoy,

Yeah; it’s a great piece for sure.
I don’t own one but have used it at Wally’s Hydeout a bunch. My take is that it’s preferable to monitor the capture as you’re tweaking the mix rather than add the Burl late in the game. Meaning that the Burl is even more a part of your 2 buss chain than a transparent A/D and you want it in early as you would your buss comp, EQ etc.
Of course, that’s probably best practice regardless. I just feel it keenly with this box because it does have a lot of box tone.

Ya, if you are going to use the b2, put it on first and do your mix/master into it.

Yeah - I should set it up that way on the next mix. It is kind've fun for it to be like a "betterizer." That was my experience with this tune. I had it mixed, but then sent my tracks to it on a bus, then that bus to the master. Adjusted some things in the mix and played around with how hard I was hitting the Burl. Then printed and bounced through the master.

TBH, I think the effect of the Burl ADC is subtle enough that you can work either way. Mixing into it works great, but adding it at the end of the process usually doesn't necessitate changes to the mix IME. It just makes it a bit more euphonic. If you're using hardware processors on the 2-bus then those will change the sound far more than a Burl ADC will. Just use it however fits your workflow and enjoy.

Using Dangerous AD+ and Dangerous Convert DA for quite some time now, but I have always wondered about Burl, haven't used their converters, but have some of their preamps that are nice. Always been very curious to try their converters.

The B2 DAC is great, though it's not transformer based so not "colored". But it has the sound of class A discrete circuitry with zero capacitors. For years I used them for both feeding my chain and monitoring. I still have one in great condition that I've been meaning to sell. PM me if interested.

If you like the B2 then try the newer generation mastering BAD4-m cards!

I often end up with stuff and think "do I really need that?" Really is subjective.
