Has anyone on this forum ever had a client request Atmos? Nope. Never for music clients. Even when I had a fully blown tuned 5.1 system, the only time it was ever requested was for big feature films. Atmos is cool. IMO though, it was dead in the water before it ever started.

Once you get the hang of mixing in immersive it's not really that hard. Music opens up and it's so much easier to hear all the parts in a piece. Agreed. But no one (and I worked in LA and Hollywood) ever requested or wanted to pay for it. Especially for albums. All the bigger features of course demanded it, but smaller films - just standard stereo stems. I thought long and hard about surround capabilities when I built my new room. Made the concerted decision to abandon it. Love LOVE LOOOOOOVE mixing in surround. I don't suspect I'll ever do it again. Last project I did in surround was Pirates of the Caribbean for Disney Shanghai. And that was years ago.

A few albums I’ve turned in to labels have required stems that would allow for the creation of ATMOS mixes if required/desired.
I, personally, work on music is mostly live and acoustic and usually 5 or 6 sources…I don’t think immersive audio is meant for acoustic music that’s primary goal is to represent what it would be like to see the act on stage or in your living room.
It’s not practical for me, personally, to invest in the set up. But, I would if I was working in pop or commercial country

The real bands who can play just wanted the stereo mix to be clear and banging with their performances mostly intact and if the recording had any cool vibe gear, have that come through or be enhanced.

I’ve never had a band or artist ask me for stems. Stems are a very common request from just about any, for lack of a better term, legitimate record label.

Surround sound was cool in the day when the world was rich and bored and there was extra bandwidth for nonsense. Now people are dying around us and corporations are obliterating the creative class. Fuck Avid and anyone else who isn't here to fight for helping funnel the voice of the people through our sons and daughters. We need a thousand voices heard from Appalachia to Albany. Music is not about enriching corporations, it's about expressing the collective sentiment and emotion of our time. Woodstock was a sonic statement about Vietnam and the 60s, today we face a far more consequential reality. Any company that isn't in step with the ethos of our creative class doesn't deserve a single dollar from any one of us. We have a duty as Engineers and Producers to drive and protect the content of our Artists to the world at large. Who knows where the next Bob Dylan will come from? But it won't come from Spotify. It will come from one of us and our commitment to some stranger down the street who has little to no money but a voice and a message for a generation.

Last surround we did was for a live Warren Haynes concert dvd. Even then there isn’t much you can add to the surrounds. He did some Dark Side tunes which we got a little trippy with.
I actually had to order up some seas drivers as every time we blew a mid driver in the mains I would just pop one out of the surround speakers and swap them as we hadn’t used the system in almost 8 years.

I just discovered stereo guitar (live, in the room.) I guess the next step is Atmos guitar, surround guitar, haha! Now that would be fun.

also make it deafeningly loud and it will be "more powerful" and not annoying or cloying
I'm getting a picture in my head

I came up with a joke for when you're out at a show:
"I'm wearing earplugs. Not because it's too loud, I just don't like your band."
