Did anybody notice that you can fake belivable drum rooms with the Chroma Verb. I was very impressod today when I toyed around with it for SD FXs. It reminds me a little on the LS 7H.

I've long maintained that the stock plugins in Logic are very, very good and one could easily make a great sounding record with nothing else. I've made a couple, although the "great sounding" in my case is probably debatable and not the fault of Logic's plugins.

Thats true. I am also a bit tired of buying new plug ins.
It makes sense to investigate stock DAW tools from time to time.

Logic is a bargain, runs super smooth on my M1 Mini, and is easy to use. I was getting tired of pulling my hair out with Reaper -- just not as intuitive as Logic.

I likes R but the bus routing ... no thanks. Logic is getting better and better under M1 they get also third party bugs under control. I had two calls by Apple because of reported bugs; they do thier work well…

I once had a 16 year old guitar student who bought a Les Paul, a Focusrite preamp and a cheap mic with his savings and birthday money. He'd used up every penny he had. So we tried a challenge, create an album using only Logic, no 3rd party plugs. The damn thing sounded like a frickin' Coldplay record.
Other brand plug-ins certainly bring your personal taste into play, but Logic alone is a monster. If you can't make a great recording with all those tools, you're just not very good at it.

Which answers all HW vs SW doubts...

HA, yeah, sure, okay.. Martin's the one that keeps dipping over into the HW pond. My view is it isn't either or, take the best of either worlds and run with it. Everything has its strengths / weaknesses etc.. In terms of Logic, well ever since I dumped UA I started to look a lot deeper into it. Much to my surprise it has just about everything and they're pretty damn good too.. I was looking for an alternative to ocean way, couldn't find any information so I did the practical thing for once and opened up Logic. Space Designer you say? Nice..

Logic compressors are surprisingly good as well these days, both bus comps and for channels. A couple of years ago they only had some very basic options but then they updated them. EQ is super usable and even the pitch correction is good.
I’ve never gotten the Chroma verb to do nice, expensive sounding halls, but maybe realistic smaller rooms is where is shines? Space designer is very usable as well, specially with updated IRs (Bricasti IRs for instance sounds very nice even if it’s not close to 7th heaven).
Logic must be one of the best bargains in the business.

Shadow's right, my goal is hybrid. My point about Logic though, is it's good enough by itself to make a great recording if you know what you're doing. A friend once sent me a track and I really liked the reverb, I was shocked when he said it was Chromaverb. That said, the same friend sent me another track and the reverb was so rich and outstanding, I asked what he used and he said one of the cheap hardware Lexicon reverbs he got online for $80 !
When you can get a reverb plug-in like Liquid Sonic's Seventh Heaven basic version for $69, and a Soundtoys' Little Plate on sale for $29, there's no reason not to augment the Logic system with a few good plug-ins.
My mantra has always been good mics first. That alone will get you petty far down the road. With one good preamp and one great mic, you can work wonders. Logic is certainly an amazing deal though.
It's like an entire free universe for keyboard and beat making guys. Me, I don't go near all that programming. Only on occasion do I use a basic organ or piano, that's it.

Isn't Seventh Heaven just IRs of the Bricasti unit? If so, are they better than the free ones from Samplitude -- that I linked to previously?
The Samplitude ones sound pretty darn good to my ears...but I just started playing with them.

We are pretty much spoiled -to death- these days. I had situations when my old MVII was the right thing. There is only one LS verb I still like because it’s the only SW verb which does the up front trick. But for the rest I am happy there is only two HW units left over in my place. One tube saturation unit with a following dynamic section which can sound tapish with post EQing. I kept it because it sounds unique. One 1176 is also left over….

I wish I could get back the thousands of dollars I've spent on reverb plugins.

I always waited for sales, but yehhhsssss still a lot of money...
The Stock Chroma verb can do the Lexicon thing with much lesser CPU USE.
My PCM bundle was unused today.
The Orchestra Samples they deliver are Vienna parts, so I would not be surprised if Lexicon made Chroma-Verb. What is also very interesting, the GUI is way more intuitive compared to the PCM bundle. The CV GUI forces creativity, the Lexicon GUI is something for TECH freaks.

Current logic has Billy Eilish ocean eyes track done in the bedroom, mixed by her bro using Apollo and logic plugs: sounds awfully good to my ears.

Current logic has Billy Eilish ocean eyes track done in the bedroom, mixed by her bro using Apollo and logic plugs: sounds awfully good to my ears. I've never opened the Logic session (I really should do that...), but I really do like the album version as a song. However, I don't particularly love how it sounds. To my ear, her vocal is a little crispy around the "esses", a little thin overall, and has a bit of an odd resonance in it. And the background noise on her vocal is loud as CRAP. Just listen at the end on the very last line, after she sings the last "ocean eyes..." The noise after that is crazy. I think the other instruments in the mix just don't hang together very well, either: they all sound kind of thin and too separated from everything else. HOWEVER, all that goes to show that a great song is a great song, regardless of how it's recorded.

If only she and her bro could be successful then Mom could stop worrying about them ! I think she used an AT4030 mike if I remember correctly. It’s interesting to hear the session/tracks and open up the plug ins to see settings. I read that the sessions were independently mastered though, so what you hear on the final release is post the logic session .

And yeah, I'm sure it was mastered after the Logic mix. That documentary about her on Apple TV+ last year was pretty good, actually. I can't imagine having that much popularity dropped in one's lap at her age. Would be very challenging.

I was a little sanguine about the logic session as he used Apollo but no UA plugs ?
