Just doing some tests with the UT FET47 and wow... my normally very sibilant voice sounds like someone de-essed it. I'm blown away. I had to check to make sure I had all the compressors in my chain bypassed, it was that shocking. Having heard my recorded voice singing for two and half decades (I'm not THAT old, I started young... ok, moderately old) I've never sung through a condenser that is as forgiving as this one. Funny... I was interested in this mic for bass drum and bass amps, but I may end up using it for my own Vox and for other sibilant singers. Also... making someone like me say "sibilant singers" into a mic is just about as cruel as making someone with a lisp say the word "lisp." chessparov I feel like I've seen you mention that you have a sibilance challenge yourself and I saw that you like this mic for vocals as well. Coincidence?

Yes! My 6.5 KHz natural boost helps to cut through a live band, but usually problematic getting recorded. This mic is one of the "good ones", regarding lack of sibilance. Chris P.S. My new (used) Baby Bottle SL does well too, but ultimately a fine Character Mic. UT 47FET more universal IMHO.

Yes! And this mic is one of the "good ones", regarding lack of sibilance. Chris "I'm just asking us to say sibilant singers seventy seven times into these mics."

United Technologies. As far as I know, the FET47 is their only product.

One more caveat... I'm not saying this is the world's best vocal sound. Just saying the sibilance is under control. Not joking about the rye.

I ran across this Iron Madian video and it looks like the Bruce Dickinson studio shots are the actual performances with a FET 47.

I wonder to what extent this is a UT specific thing. I'm looking hard at a Heiserman Model 19 and it would be nice if this was as much an effect of the capsule as of the specific implementation!

It really is an exceptional mic, and a total steal for the price. Crazy that it’s so slept on. Sounded every bit as good as my old M149 when I had it. I’m very eager to buy one again now that I have better A/D — as good as it sounded before, I bet it would sound killer with my Lavry. My guess is I’ll probably end up keeping it this time.
