So, I haven't paid close attention and may have this wrong, but it seems Avid/Pro Tools goes longer and longer stretches now without offering the reinstatement upgrade for perpetual license users who don't renew annually, before they offer it again rarely for a limited time, forcing people that need to upgrade in-between to either pay for the full price Pro Tools perpetual product again at $600 or purchase a subscription. I typically only buy a reinstatement to my perpetual Pro Tools when I upgrade computer systems like I'll be doing shortly with a M1 Pro. So thought I'd mention that While I haven't seen the Pro Tools reinstatement upgrade for a perpetual license available in quite some time, it is currently available again for 2 more days @ $249 before that option goes away again Jan 1 for who knows how long. I don't think this was available for the past year or more so it's been awhile, but I may be wrong. FWIW

Interesting… the sweetwater link you provided states it’s $50. off the list price which is normally $299. Avid has this available at the $299 price but only for Student/Teachers (qualified educational pricing). I wonder if this is a mistake. If not, I may need to act on this. Thx!

Just the new Pro Tools, updates and suuport for 1 year, HEAT and a crappy plugin bundle. It's actually a good deal for a lot of people. This reinstallmeant should be offered anytime, because it's make sense for some people that don't mind being on a older version for 1-2 year, but want to be able to update the software in case of a big change or hardware/software compatibility. The problem is that this gives users more freedom, and Avid just hates that. They want to make you suffer if you one day decides to cancel the subscription. They want you to think that you'll never be able to come back, and someday you'll ended up with an old version that doesn't work on new computers. That's more the Avid way of thinking.

So, does the license work after one year or do you just lose support after one year?
This kind of avid nonsense was why I jumped to logic, free regular updates from time to time and a one time purchase price that was leads than Avid’s current $250. I know us vanilla users paid less than hdx, but I still paid avid $1,000’s over a few years: PT just stopped making economic sense for me.

After one year you can't update anymore, but you'll be able to use the version that you had before the plan expired. Like Pro Tools 2022.12, for example. But watch out cuz Avid does have some options to surrender your perpetual license and enter on the subscription. I did the Reinstalmment this month and that was not the case, but I triple checked that with my Avid representative. No way I'll loose my perpetual license.

I bought it last night. My understanding from a rep and from Avid's history is this option of reinstatement for lapsed Perpetual license holders is gone tomorrow Jan. 1 for who knows how long.

I paid $90 for this same thing a few years back (education discount). I just bought the educational reinstatement and it's still $99. It added a new perpetual license asset to my old 10/11/12 license bundle that has a release limit date a year from now. So it brought my old combined license up to the current version with one year of updates and support, plus added the Complete Plug-in Bundle, HEAT and Falcon 2 assets for one year.

Native is so strong these days, no one needs to be held captive. I'm wondering if Avid is seeing the hand writing on the wall. Think back to the late 50's when 3M and a hand full of companies introduced 2" recording platforms. Obsolete today. Everything is cyclical. No need for proprietary platforms these days. You can pick them up for pennies on the dollar.

Wait you used the term “ make sense” in reference to AVID, ok we now know these truest are the end of days.

I did the same today. For me…. It’s a good deal. I’ve been on version 12 for the past six years and perfectly happy. There wasn’t anything I was lacking and didn’t want to pay a subscription fee. I’ve got no problem with paying the $250 and will let it ride until I see the need and value to upgrade again. Thanks again for the heads up!

Pulled the trigger on one of these as well for the tracking studio which is on 12. It honestly worth for me to be able to search for plugins and busses and not have to scroll through menus. And folders are a nice way to make stems which everyone seems to want these days. $450 for Ultimate from Alto. I think the Pro Tools license is 5 years old. I’ve spent $450 on gear I never use and I use Pro Tools every day.

No problem,.... I'm the same and have been using PT12 for 6+ plus years which still works just fine on my I7 mac,......but I'll need an updated version for the M1 Pro I'll be getting soon, so I was happy to see this come along for the first time in awhile.

I've been running PT 10 native forever with access to 11 if I wanted but 10 was almost glitch free so I stayed; I'm about to buy a Silicon Mac of some description when PT is certified silicon compliant So what are my options without having to purchase the subscription model. (I'm keen to just buy a once off reliable PT version and get 5 years out of it, much as I've done with PT 10.) Cheers, Ross

Hi Ross, it appears a cut off date I had heard earlier from a rep was wrong, and that the sometimes available perpetual reinstatement upgrade for lapsed PT license holders is still available, though not on sale. Sorry for any confusion, but glad it's still currently available for those who need it.
