Hello all,
I'm starting to plan my new studio rig, and that means being able to use a lot of things I haven't been able to try as I have kept the current computer "behind" as it's worked well and I've been able to just keep working.
I'd really like some sort of nice modeled reverb, and I'm considering getting a UAD satellite as part of the new system. A big draw to that is the Capital Chambers. But, the IK Sunset Sound is a big draw to me, and is native, which might be good and might be bad.
Of course I have records done at both places, and the concept of using those classic sounding spaces is cool.
If anyone used both and has anything to say, I'd really appreciated it.

Haven’t used both but UA CC is just sublime.

UA Capital Chambers sounds wonderful. Really a piece of art.
But I don't really use it that much.

They're both great and do different things and different genres. The UAD CC was quite expensive the Sunset I picked up in the BF sale for $35 so it was a no brainer.

I am in love with the Sunset Sound. Use it all the time, it's special to me.
I haven't demo'd the Capital Chambers yet.
Ocean Way is roughly comparable to Sunset Sound, yes of course they sound a little different. But you can use them similarly.
And there is also the new FAME studios (Muscle Shoals) from IK to grok at.
T-Verb never did much for me, oh well!
I use the Waves Abbey Road Chambers sometimes, but it's a bit clunky to use.

I’m loving Sunset. Haven’t tried Capitol.
Thing is, I used to use plate and chamber impulses all the time. Then I got on a delay instead of reverb kick. So when I came back around to reverb again I found myself loving the live rooms in Sunset. They’re great. I’m still kinda on a break from plates and chambers, but the Sunset ones seem great. The Iso booths are cool too.
I also got Exponential Audio Phoenix and it’s the best DSP verb I’ve ever owned. Great for creating a hint of space that tucks nicely into a mix.

An actually EMT reverb plate - the real hardware sounds beyond stunning A hardware Lexicon 224XL A hardware Lexicon PCM 70 Oh I forgot to add, befriend a decent service engineer :-)

I have a passive plate as well. I don't use it much, but I even have an SPX900 that I should play with more, it's been forever...

Never tried Sunset, but I love capital chambers. It will do longer verbs than ocean way. I only use ocean way to set a part back in the mix.

I also own 30+ reverb plugins I think. It's the kind of thing where maybe 5 of them (or less) could serve you for a lifetime. I end up ignoring a whole lot of them.

Can’t speak for monkey, but my top verbs are Capital Chambers, Slate Bricasti, UAD Lex 224, and UAD pure plate. I also really like UAD AKG spring, but I don’t use it on every project.

If I could make a small list right now UAD EMT 140 IK Sunset Sound Exponential Audio R4/Nimbus honestly that might do it right there from time to time Eventide SP2016 or BlackHole, PSP 2445 on snare drum, Waves Abbey Road chambers/plate, Inspired Acoustics Inspirata, then it gets into the long list

Tony, Check you email. There is a way your wanting a way into UAD can work out nicely for both of us.

The studio I work out of has a Bricasti M7 and UAD 140, and just picked up the UAD Capital Chambers, but haven’t played with it yet. I know all I’ve really gotta checkout IK Sunset Sound then! And probably should grab that PSP 2445, as I’m always in search for better and better snare verbs.

I like it for more ambient stuff, but that’s because that’s what I was working on where we were using it a lot (I’m trying not to buy it as I have so many options).

I Agree with Guitar who said “I am in love with the Sunset Sound. Use it all the time, it's special to me.” I use on everything. The key for me is to use it sparingly to get the vibe of that space. I will grab the FAME emulation before 2022. I also use Little Plate, but Sunset is a game-changer for me. It is special indeed.

But threaten my life with a knife and I'd go with UAD 140. But if you don't have UAD, Little Plate would be just fine. They're really pretty similar.

I don’t follow IK’s sales. Is $50 a good price for Sunset, or are there any other stackable coupons? Many thanks to you for the info, Oracle of Plugins.

You might try the code "GROOVE3IKM" to see if it takes off a few more bucks. It's probably not going to be on sale lower than that, but who knows.
