That's just such a nice piece of industrial design. I'm sure it sounds great too, but RND really knows how to make their gear look high end.

I bet it's amazing. But for $2000 per channel, I think I'm good :-)

RND: so we’re obviously going to make a 2 channel preamp like we have in the past with our other lines and as everyone would expect us to, right?
“Bad news chief, with global supply chain problems I’m not sure we’ve got the parts!”
RND: dammit! how many can we make?
“Hmm… 300?”

I have the RND 5211 and like it quite a bit. MSRP is $1995, transformerless on the input and the Shelford transformer on the output, red silk only. Both have the dual outputs per channel. Metering is different. I'd have a hard time dropping $3999 for this at 2x the price of the 5211.

Why would it be 2k a preamp???
That’s crazy expensive when the preamp + EQ is 2500? No?

I've been curious for a while what the sonic difference is between transformerless and transformered inputs.

RND pres problem is it’s not clean, not super dirty, and the rack mount stuff is very expensive for not clean and not straight up game changing distortion.
It’s very modern sounding and not in a clean way.

I have to wonder what will happen at RND now that Rupert is gone. Will they continue to repackage the “blessed” designs at extraordinary prices, or go the API route and start making off-brand items?
Toobs anyone??

This will be the perfect mic pre to record kazoo solos! Because anything that goes through it has to sound good for that price! LOL. I was wondering that too, plinker, what does RND do now, without Rupert?

Weeeeweeee if I’m spending $ like that on a pre it’s either some once in a lifetime stupid rare thing or a Gordon.

Toobs anyone?? It's my understanding the Mr Neve left many designs when he passed away. Even in his 90s he worked usually 4 days a week.
