Genuine surprise, I'd imagine there would be someone with their hands on early units for review/videos.
I'm having troubles finding reviews/clips.

The Mojave is pattern-adjustable and includes the filters like the Sony, but is based on a different tube. Each one seems to get part-way there.

It's going to help sell quite a few Tonelux's. IMHO same mistake as the GAP version of the other Sony... The C800G. (When you have the AA CM800T)
Price is too high. Chris

Price may be too high. It depends on how great it is and what they had to do to get it there. I would like to know more about how this compares to the Tonelux, in terms of actual use experience.

Well at least the Mojave has Omni. I'm thinking $3K tops then. As Joe Chiccarelli said... IIRC the JC37, is around 93% simularity to the original. The JC37 edged the mighty C37a, on my voice! (Gasp) Some analogy to the C37a, and related Josephson microphones I suppose. Chris

Some real quick armchair speculation: The MA37 isn't listed anywhere else from some casual internet browsing. It's not listed on Mojave's website either. All other Mojave microphones are below MSRP at Sweetwater. This initial batch might be exclusive to Sweetwater for a minute; and likely not below MSRP until it starts appearing elsewhere.
According to some searches, (edit: forgot to complete this sentence) the listing on sweetwater only came a day or so ago.
I've seen something similar happen to new live sound products at other dealers.
(Apparently some Mojave folks are at Sweetwater today? Demos to be posted soon?)

I'm very curious about the Mojave - they make killer mics. I owned the Tonelux for a couple days and returned them to VK. They did not sound good at all or on anything in my space. I believe one of the tubes was bad right off the bat but neither sounded good. The owner of Tonelux told me he and JC had a difference of opinion on which tube to use in the production and he won out over Joe's choice. The tube Joe wanted was not rated for as many hours and Tonelux was primarily concerned about service issues. I have to say based on what I heard I have a strong feeling Joe's choice was probably better for tone. Regardless, they did not strike me as $2000 quality mics and I was grateful for VK's return policy.

Interesting, I've generally read good reviews about the Tonelux. Have you used a Sony C-37a in your space? Just curious if maybe you don't like this style of mic or if the Tonelux is really that far off the mark. I've never used the Tonelux but do own a Sony C-37a. I love it, but it may be a bit dark for people expecting more of a Neumann sound.

Good friend, shop I work out of on occasion has owned an excellent 37A for I dunno... way over a decade. Helped him track down a good one. Superb mic.
Bit of sticker shock at the price on the Mojave. It's just way uphill from the $1k ish mics they're known for. Would love a pair for vocals & overheads... but at $7k ehh not so much!
I'd be stoked to do a shootout against the real deal if anyone wants to pick up the tab!

I talk to Dave from time to time so this wasn't a surprise. The Sonys can be a bit dark. I don't understand the love or price tags for these mics. They sound great on toms and particular vocalists but so do SM57s. Whenever I've had them around I've always had something else that worked better. I've been asked many times to build this capsule but never found it exciting enough to go to that much trouble. Mechanically it's very complex.

I definitely fit one of the C37a style vocal profiles. Bright voice/prone to sibilance. With the Sony or Tonelux... Goodbye de-esser! In the ad copy, it said Mel Blanc used the C37a. "That's All Folks!" Chris

bah. i was hoping cheaper than the Tonelux Me too. The Joe Chiccarelli connection to the Tonelux means a lot to me, because that dude has some ears! I have a friend with a pair of the Sonys. I wonder if I can get both the Tonelux and Mojave here with his to go shootout crazy.

I’d be inclined to send one of my BA-37s with Sony C-38b capsules, if you made that happen!

My band's producer has an original 37a, which we used in conjunction with a KU5A on mando for one album. It got great tone for that application FWIW.

In my (very) limited experience... Yes the U67 is more universal.
But the 37a still sounds first rate, on a lot of singers/instruments. Chris

I marvel at the price comparison; if this were most new mics you'd think vastly less money, so it's all the IP of resurrecting/pirating old IP. New IP ain't worth shit 'cause no one's interested.

I know it is difficult to put these things in words. What did the original 37a do for the mando? I use ribbons on mandolin and love it - like samars, aea44s, etc. But what would a 37a provide that a ribbon mic would not? Thank you for any help with this.
