Sounds good! Have you had a chance to watch any demos of Virharmonic Bohemian Violin? It’s on sale right now.

It sounds really good, but right now the attacks/articulations give themselves away, especially about 300 ms into each attack, where I hear the exact same swell or attenuation. It sounds like you are using little in the way of CC playing/programming to create motion and interest. I deliberately made the decision to not purchase a solo string library (first) because I felt that getting them to sound real would be more difficult because they are so exposed. Honestly, I'm having a tough enough time learning how to get my Spitfire Chamber Ensemble sounding real, though I don't doubt that it probably doesn't matter which I might have started with. I think the other part of this thread that deserves more attention is in regard to what drbill mentioned about any given library necessarily dictating style. That understanding has become more and more clear to me as I've been working with acoustic samples.

Though I'm certainly happy with it. It sounds pretty dang good. When I imagine average folks hearing it cold, with no foreknowledge, they're just going to think it sounds pretty. And yes, we should always strive towards that horizon line of greatness. But I think this is a worthy tool to make some music with! How much did it cost?

But I think this is a worthy tool to make some music with! How much did it cost? I got the "compact" version which is four instruments (plus variations) but only half the articulations. $199. I feel the same way. M57 is right that more could be done on the feel but what impressed me was that this was the result of about an hour of fiddling around with the tool (including the playing) and was better than what I could do with S1's built-in strings no matter how much time I put in. In a moderately dense arrangement this would probably fit right in. But even in a sparse arrangement I'm sure I could actually learn how to use the articulations better. I wish they had a demo. They'd sell these things like hot cakes.
