So, I've been meaning to post this, ever since I saw her open up for Jason Isbell here in Austin a few weeks ago.
For those that know and appreciate her, but may not be aware, she had a stroke sometime in the last year. Anyway, she came out on stage, but clearly needed a little help getting out there and didn't play guitar. She sat on a stool nearly the whole time, though she did stand towards the end.
She's clearly missing a step, considering her recent health crisis, but she still was great.
I first saw her open up for Neil Young on his Greendale tour back in 2002 or so, having never heard of her. She was great then and remains so to this day. Even then, I was late to the party, as her career spans back to the late 70s, if I'm not mistaken.
Anyway, I was listening to one of her best albums, in my opinion, "Car Wheels On a Gravel Road" tonight and felt compelled to start this thread.
If you've never listened to her. Check her out. She may not be around too much longer. She has plenty of other great albums as well. For whatever reason, it seems like she's continuously flown just under the radar. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I still don't think enough people know about her.

Saw her in Melbourne around the time ‘Car Wheels on a Gravel Road’ was released in the late 1990’s. Gurf Morlix’ double Twin Reverb setup with what looked like a Silvertone electric sounded great. She also has spina bifida so that along with her stroke last year must be tough.

If you type "Lucinda Williams" and "spina bifida" into Google, the first thing that comes up says that Lucinda has a "weak back". Ha. I disagree.

Though I will admit to liking Tom Petty's version of this song even more.

I didn't know she had a stroke. I'm glad she's still able to play. I saw her about 3-4 years ago here in town and it was a wonderful show. Sortly after that her guitarist was on a panel at Welcome to 1979 and I talked to him a bit. He said she was always great to work for (her backing band was also the opening act).
I always thought whoever thought to bring Lucinda in for this duet with Elvis Costello was truly inspired.

As a long time lurker here, I had to smile when I saw this thread.
It's great honor to have been touring and recording with Lucinda since 2007. She is a national treasure IMHO Know that she is a tough woman and is getting stronger by the day.
We were scheduled to start another run this week but was cancelled due to Covid safety concerns. Hopefully start up again in Oct.
Thanks for letting chime in, David Sutton

My fiance even cried when Lucinda came walking out. I'm hoping Lucinda continues to get better. I missed hearing her on guitar this time around, but hopefully she'll be back to playing again by the next time I get a chance to see her. Stick around here at RGO. It's a pretty great place.

The guitar he was playing had lipstick style pickups and looked like a Silvertone but I could be wrong.
