I wish they had used the Stam 87 with my capsule option. That would have been interesting

Now that dude should demo those mics all placed in a different order for her to sing into. Warm where the Stam is, Stam where the Serrano is, etc. I get why people do these sort of shootouts, but this type of experiment would be really aggravating if I was any of those mic manufacturers- perfect example of why its best to just try a mic first hand. Hopefully no one is buying any of these based on one vocal take through one console.
Also, that placement on the Serrano is hilariously bad. Or have I been missing out by not micing singers throats?
Rant over.

Rant over. I do these kinds of shootouts, but I'm very specific about how and where I place the mics. Also, I'm usually 12"-18" back, so the issue is not as dramatic. Its much easier to do this with (2) mics than (4).

Interesting shootout. My 87's are usually a little darker than the regular vintage 87's as I try to replicate my personal favorite from 1979 at the lab which is slightly darker.
I agree the Warm was very good on this particular shootout but as someone posted it's best to test these mics by yourself, placing can indeed make a drastic difference. Things can always be adjusted a little to make them slightly darker or brighter on the circuit itself.

Rant over. It's unfortunate. I would defer you to the clips on the Serrano site, which to my ear, sound like the Serrano is dead on. This video is useless as far as the Serrano is concerned. And in my own experience (when singing into the mic properly) I do hear the "Neumann hug" proximity effect thing, which is awesome cause that seems to be the most elusive thing in clones.

I already have a Serrano 87. I love it.

It was a very well done shootout. There is no way to perfectly compare. I only use the separate takes method, never the multiple mics simultaneously approach. The capsule being 2"-3" over makes a huge difference. Not faulting the shootout at all, the separate takes method has its own issues, but I feel it gets me closer to a real comparison.
In my shootout of the Neumann U 47, U67, M49, C-12, Soyuz 0-19, and Blackspade UM-17R, I did separate takes of the same verse and chorus. It's not perfect, levels are rarely perfectly matched, but the winner of that comparison was so obvious to everyone here. I'll stick with that method.
I'll try to do a Stam SA67 to Neumann U67 shootout soon. Covid has made that very difficult to get done though.

Wish the Beesneez was included here! Very happy with mine. I agree with others here, the Warm was pretty impressive!
