Just wondering if there’s some magical verb I’m missing. Depends on the song, but I like to have a tail in bigger productions. EMT 250 lots of times...RMX16. I need to really deep dive on this to find my golden one.

I have kind of mostly sworn off reverb. But, one revelation was when I figured out you could do the non-lin thing on snare but way more tucked in than the 80's sound. Can help the snare cut through without evoking hair metal.

Parallel compression, room mics, then, if I MUST some M3000 or maybe SP2016

I have never been a big 'verb guy. Used sparingly on things, though. That said, I've used the PSP 2445 on instruments, snare (toms and OH, too). Never long or too wet. I tend more toward my room sound. I've used the EMT 250 a bit, but the 2445 gets the call here first if I'm going to use reverb. On vocals I find the Izotope Nectar reverb and delay pretty serviceable.

PSP 2445 here too. It's like cheating.

Maybe it’s the genre I deal with mostly, but I rarely want to go without some space on the snare in a mix. Just polishes to me.
I agree with the nonlinear thing in subtle doses.

Slate verb suite. The "real room 2" with a little mid bump for all drums and I just send more snare to it.

Verb Suite is awesome for snare (and drums in general). Dozens of presets that just work with no tweaking. One of the few Slate plugins I miss since stopping the subscription.

Lately it's been a combination of SP2016 and Soundtoys Little Plate.

Almost never any call for drum reverb on the things I do. I have room mics at all times also. Sometimes an IR of a big studio room is useful, very short decay and heavily weighted to the lows.

I often use a bunch of short verbs (emt250 and Valhalla vintage) and delays (cooper time cube, h910).
For longer verbs, I actually use samples typically. I have a few from the B room at Electrical Audio’s I’m quite fond of

Kind of surprised by the number of people not using any reverb on snare. Interesting.

Kind of surprised by the number of people not using any reverb on snare. Interesting. I'll sometimes bring in a single shot room sample and mix that in instead of using a snare verb.

Kind of surprised by the number of people not using any reverb on snare. Interesting. For me it depends on the song and how I get to track it. I track mostly live so with bleed I don't often use room mics. If I am only tracking drums then I'll usually get it from the rooms. Then their are some songs that just beg for that snare verb. Again it could be just the type of songs that come my way.

I’ll use a very slight plate or EMT plug on snare and then nuke a room. If there is no room mic, I’ll often feed the whole kit into a room reverb at 25-50% wet, filter it, and nuke it with whatever cool compressor works. Recently it’s VCL-373 but I’ve used Blockfish and Molot all the time. The snare reverb has to blend with the room and then get this insane effect when it gets accentuated as the nuke pumps.

Lexicon PCM70 or Lexicon M300 usually for hardware. Sometime ITB, varies.

Another option to try is a room sample. You can set up a stereo instance of slate trigger on an aux in place of your reverb plug in. I like the 5AZ4 sample. That way you get a good clean snare ambience without any hi hat leakage. If you need a longer tail you can compress that sample or even send it to a reverb but..again…no leakage so it’s really versatile. It’s also really helpful if you have a drummer that didn’t hit the snare with enough impact. You can use the velocity options in Trigger to help make it more impactful/consistent.

I got hired to mix something a little while back that was well tracked but for whatever reason there were no room mics.
It was kind of an indie meets blues vibe, and I wanted it to sound like the back beat was really exciting the room. Like the drummer was mad at her snare drum.
They had tracked next door to a room I’ve done a bunch of sessions in so I stole a snare room sample from myself and triggered that. Different rooms, same studio, worked great!

I’ll often use a Slate Trigger to blend in a reverb/room sample on the snare. But also use Little Plate, and 2016 verb sometimes too

Slate verb suite. The "real room 2" with a little mid bump for all drums and I just send more snare to it. You know, when I had VS, I used it a lot on Snare. Couple of settings in the 3000 I think that I liked. But don’t have it anymore.
