I've been looking at adding the Behringer Powerplay to my set up for tracking purposes. I like the idea of giving an artist in the studio the ability to create their own levels as needed. Any one using this with an Apollo based set up? Is if difficult to route the audio properly in console? I currently have an Apollo Silver Face, but I'm hoping to upgrade to the X16 at some point.

So I take it the Powerplay is their copy of the Hearback system?
We used hearback at a studio I used to work in. I never messed with it but it was cool that it seemed to be that everything went over cat 5. Power and signal.
Worked well in Pro Tools.
I see it has ADAT IN for all 16 channels. That would be the way I would do it, assuming you aren't using the Apollo ADAT for anything else. I'd rather use that than the analog outs unless you never use them. Then use UA console to choose what goes where in the ADAT. Would take a little thinking but shouldn't be too complex. I'm trying to remember how we did it in PT HD at the studio. I didn't set it up. I just slapped on the sends in the template. Worked well though.
How many musicians at once would you be working with, potentially?

Just watched Mitch Gallagher's video on Sweetwater. That is a nice setup. That is something I would probably get for my small studio, though I don't do much isolated multitracking.

Yeah, the plan is to use the ADAT out from my silver face to send signal to the Powerplay. My wife always asked me whenever we are working, "which nob is the track and which is my voice." It's just a headphone amp currently, so the answer is its just the full volume and I can tweak it from the desk. I just think it will make things easier. I can start with one personal mixer and build from there. I'm not a huge fan of console, but I've been able to manage with it. I may make this investment before we start recording the next few songs for the Christmas Album.

I will say that the ol' Powerplay has shockingly good headphone amps for such a cheap device. They are seriously powerful and clean. Nice to have those basic shelving EQs there too.
I'm using the HA4700 which doesn't have any digital I/O, so I can't say for sure if it has the same amps as the one you're looking at. But this one has been a really nice piece of utility gear for me.

I use the Hearback via ADAT. In console, click on Cue Outputs. If you want to set up just an overall 2-mix, In Cue 1, set the source to "Mix" and mirror the output to ADAT 1-2. That way you will hear the mix on Stereo 1-2 of your PP (I'm guessing it's similar to the HB). The in Console, take whatever Console input channel you're using and set the Output (above the fader) to whichever ADAT channel you want. I always keep my vocal on 3. So I set the output to ADAT3 and uncheck Mirror to Monitor. That way, your vocal input is only coming through the single ADAT channel. I also set up a Reverb on lets say - Cue 3. You put whichever verb on the AUX channel in Console. Then turn up Cue 3. Now, in Console Outputs, assign whichever ADAT channel you want it to appear on. Then you've got selectable reverb the singer can adjust.
