There is also the Peluso at 1.7 k RUN AWAY from the peluso unless you enjoy ice picks in your ear. That is the reason I unparticipated, the harshness could not be dialed out as much as I would tweak the circuit. But on certain instruments, the CEK12 was profoundly good sounding. Just not on the wrong thing.

Thanks for this one and all the other suggestions. As always if I ask 10 people I get 20 opinions.
A friend suggested the WA 251 which he used for a long time, and he knows pretty much all the expensive stuff for decades. Owner of several Neumann Vintage Tube mics...
I think it's always a matter of using the gear. First hints aren't bad....
I see that Warm saved on the PSU and body.
I learned one lesson no more impulse buys.
I need to sleep over it.
I haven't been overly impressed by the WA251 personally, and this video really clinched it for me. You could grab the WA251 and swap the capsule though.
Is there any affordable capsule?

Looks like Heiserman's is $450. Plus shipping. Tim Campbell's is 2500 Danish Kroner, which is a little over $400 right now. Plus shipping.

What is affordable? I like Luke Audio capsules. I like them as much as all the other, not as affordable ones, I have.

MJE closed in 2018... and I will never buy used mics again if I do not know the seller in person.

Looks like quite a few good options. Chris Btw I did not had the impression that the WA 251 signal in the Video was unusable or bad. A little smaller more lows. Call me practically thinking I wasn’t able to recreate the drama he talks in my head. I thought that every signal by any of this microphones was good to go.

I agree his reactions are too theatrical. Comparing an AC701 mic to the others is really apples and oranges. His claims about the AC701 tube also run counter to my own experiences with 251 and his observation about the U67/M269 show he doesn't understand how different the amplifiers are.

It's maybe a good compromise to go with the WA 251, upgrading the PSU after a while and changing the capsule later. IMO price performance is not bad ....

Just changing the tube would go a long way to improving that mic. Warm is like a factory churning these out. They spend no time listening to them. You see these around used for really decent prices and a great tube might set you back 150 dollars.

BOWIE (Christian Whitmore) here can help you. He's quality people, knows his tubes; vetts for noise, tone, performance, etc.

Yes I as well as all my customers are sorry mine must be so expensive. It is all down to exchange rates, though that makes no difference for those having to pay. I haven't changed my price in about 15 years. At that time 2500 danish kroner was about 325 USD.

Can you recommend any clones that use your capsule (besides the STAM which I have ordered but most likely will take years to arrive)?

I'm not the expert here, but I've been through enough mid-level mics over the last 17 years to affirm what people have always told me about the capsule being the key. I finally listened and found "affordable" means the capsule is the one thing you cannot afford to skimp on. That you haven't changed your price in all of that time, Tim, is really incredible, especially considering the quality of product you provide and the reputation for its sound. Even with the current exchange rates your capsules are worth every penny.
