I have an Apollo 16MKII - thunderbolt 2, and was thinking about upgrading the option card to thunderbolt 3. Does anyone know if it will increase the sound quality in the interface? I've never upgraded a Thunderbolt card in an Apollo, however when I upgraded my Apogee AD/DA16X system with a Thunderbridge 64, it was a huge increase is sound and performance from the 32 bit pci-e card. I believe because I went from a 32bit to a 64bit thunderbolt and that might had a lot to do with it as well.
The UA Thunderbolt 3 card is a cheap upgrade at $199 right now, but I'm not sure if it will be worth it. I know it will increase bandwidth, I believe I read somewhere of people saying it actually sounded better, however sometimes these upgrades do increase the sound quality, right? Has anyone tried this, or had any experience with this?

Different thunderbolt connections will have no effect whatsoever on the sound - it's just the connection to the computer and that's it. I actually went the other direction and put a tb2 option card in my X8 rack because my two computer systems are tb2 and I wanted to stick with existing cables and not mess with tb3 to tb2 adapters.
The bandwidth is not an issue as audio devices need only a fraction of the 10Gb 20Gb or 40Gb bandwidth of tb1 tb2 and tb3 to function - thunderbolt 1 is more than adequate for things to work well.
the best reason to change connections is to make your devices future compatible for a new computer system that will have tb3 ports not tb2. In the case of your other card going from 32 bit to 64 bit likely made a noticeable and audible difference.

^^This^^, only increases bandwidth, (there’s an Aurora n 16 on GS I will be receiving my demo unit here in about two weeks if the Sun, Moon, and Stars align in a perfect array of beautifulness! I'm getting ready to upgrade my backend with some booty bumping, ass-kicking, shredilicious converter and monitoring madness! I'm raising the bar this year and if WW3 happens. I'll just reflect the nukes with a pair of air pushing, earthquake shaking, frequency splitting terror, and send them back where they came!!!

Lynx pays shipping one way and I don’t think charges labour.
I was just talking to them about getting a pre module. Seemed to be just price of pre and shipping.
Try Alex St Cin at Vintageking Nashville, maybe there is some price flexibility retail ?
