Love this plug in! It’s so helpful to load in the rough mix and comparable reference mixes and gain match them.

Just picked it up. Looking forward to trying it out this weekend.

While it is great to have a visual reference, hey I have used RTA’s and TEFs in the studio since day 1, I’ll be the first to admit you have to really know what your looking at. Sometimes it’s actually more informative and interesting to look at individual tracks and find a problem.

Question: I love the reference track ability of this plug. But is there a way with this, or any other reference plug, to have it point to a streaming source such as Spotify?

Check out an app called audio hijack I have that actually. It’s how I route my system sounds through Dirac for room correction.

But how would that work with Metric AB?

Metric AB relies on loaded files so I can’t conceive of it working with a streaming source. I don’t really know though.

Is it possible to download songs from Spotify?

Is it possible to download songs from Spotify? Kind of but not really. You can download songs on Spotify but as far I know they stay within the Spotify app and aren’t accessible from outside it. The purpose being to be able to listen to songs when you don’t have wifi or cell service (like on an airplane etc)

I use audio hijack to route audio from tidal into ozone for a/b’ing. I guess this other program works differently.

Question for users ( ragan), when switching to the reference track, B, does it bypass the master fader? That caught me off guard today. The ‘A’ mix in the DAW is going through the Master buss, but the ‘B’ track isn’t.

But oddly enough, it’s passing audio through the next plug-in, room correction. But the master fader has no effect whatsoever. Just the ‘B’ track though. ‘A’ behaves normally.

MetricAB is just a plug-in insert, so it has whatever processing is coming after it on that channel, or anything downstream of there (if that channel is bused somewhere else), right? I always have it (MetricAB) as the last insert on my master fader (except for Sonarworks, that’s the final plug). That way I’m comparing my ‘finished’ mix to the other finished mixes (the reference tracks loaded into MetricAB). What track to you have MetricAB inserted on?

I have Metric AB, then Dirac (room correction). With the master fader all the way down, if I’m on ‘A’, the no audio passes to the speakers. If I switch to ‘B’, then audio passes to speakers. The master fader level has no effect.

The master fader level has no effect. Probably has to do with the fact that inserts on a PT master track are post fader. Pulling the master fader down attenuates the summed DAW audio stream, but the Metric AB insert likely just loads pointers to the audio files’ memory locations, so it’s not reliant on the DAW audio stream at all, it’s just functioning as an audio player at that point in the chain.

I got MetricAB a couple of months ago (so I am delighted its on sale now :-D) and its been a revelation.
I started by getting a bunch of reference tracks loaded up in a folder to use as starters.
When I think of a new reference or the artist mentions one, I record it from streaming into the project and export to my reference folder.
What I have found really great is A/B-ing bands like low end, mids, etc … and doing this with different tracks. For example finding a track with a certain snare/vocal balance, or kick/bass relationship and focussing on just that. Very telling indeed.
