Did my first tracking with the x8p and unison pres/plugins.
Used the 610a, la2, pultec and Studer on the way in. Hardware vs plugins aside, I feel like I got some real good sounds with vibe going in which is almost always good to get ahead of the game.
Then to be able to save the scene in console so I can recall the tracking at any point is pretty great. Then a different scene for another project in a second. Very nice.
I could totally make art this way. I'd need to shell out for another x8p to really be able to do all manner of projects, but 8 works most of the time.
Switching my monitoring back and forth between the Lynx Aurora (n) and the Apollo, there's definitely no contest there. The lynx is effortlessly clearer, wider, deeper, easier on the ears etc.
So I'm happy with my decision to get the x8p for a mobile rig and second option to my Aurora (n). The free octo satellite is great. I was able to sell my two PCIe cards. If I were starting over as an artist, I'd probably go the Apollo route. However, the audiophile and engineer in me, tinnitus and all, prevails to a large enough extent that I continue on the path of hardware. If I get fed up with it though, I think I've got my setup figured out.

I could totally make art this way. That you came away feeling this way is what it's all about.
