Again, TDR makes you pay for the surgical curves for Slick EQ and Nova. You need the GE for them. They can’t give away the house for free. True. I almost wonder if having a free version actually hurts the sales of the GE versions. Since they form an impression from the free products. I think I was using Slick EQ Mastering for a hot minute a few years ago and I saw some old posts where I said I was into it. I'm thinking that could be one that I pursue in the future. I looked at the LVC thing a few minutes ago, it's kind of ugly and possibly buggy, so I'm just going to go ahead and cross it off my list for now. It's possible that I went too deep on this dive and I'm going to take a break from thinking about it now. I did end up with EQ4 though, as the result. It's always funny to me when audio obsession blurs the line between function and mental health. At our most extremes, this practice can feel a little nutty. I'm sure computer programmers could relate to the sensation.

Most of their sales come from Fabien, Vlad, and Herbert being the kings of free plugins 10 years ago and now from making the cleanest things around. The others in the old KVR challenges just couldn't keep up. Oril River is still the best free reverb though. Audio gear is one of the nuttiest things around. Imagine how wealthy these guys would be if they coded lasers or something. They'd have sportscars instead of smelly old guitar amps and SSL gear.

Cool! Oril River is neat, kind of reminds me of some cheap rack Yamaha thing or something. There's probably a place for reverb like this, kind of grainy.
Check out the AXP SoftAmp PSA if you haven't yet. It's a Sans Amp clone made for the KVR challenge a few years back, I am super impressed with it. The only weird oversight is it doesn't have a wet/dry knob. Other than that it's fantastic.

Now I use the Fuse F59 tweed bassman and the free PA ampeg

Just used some of the other AXP stuff today on a guitar track, a pedal and an amp. That guy knows tone, for my taste. Nembrini makes a SansAmp too but it's a hundred dollars, haven't tried it.

Nembrini makes a SansAmp too but it's a hundred dollars, haven't tried it. FWIW, Nembrini has it on sale occasionally for a good price and there's a cut down 'Jr.' version that's even less money. I think I paid less than $30 for it a while back.

FWIW (very little) I compared Pro-Q3 to Crave and preferred Pro-Q3. Again, drums, vocals, mixbus and master. The Pro-Q3 version just sounds clearer, less messed with. But any of these damn things will get the job done and we're all spoiled rotten.

Is it just me, or does TD Nova sound better? I think cleaner or more transparent is the best way I can think of to describe it. I just find myself gravitating to it more than any other dynamic eq or dynamic compressor.

Just chiming in to say that I've been using Nova a lot lately, pretty much any time I want dynamic EQ. It just sounds good and I like using it. I like that the couple mid bands are just sitting there ready to go and I like the steep filters at the push of a button. Not that it's hard with Pro-Q3 by any means, and I still go to that for general sculpting duties. But for dynamic stuff, I like Nova a lot. I think I like it more than Pro-MB.

Kinda wish Pro MB would get a reboot. I still haven’t bought the full fledged Nova version. Was skimming this again and had completely forgotten about Crave. (I just demo’d) Fabfilter really might be the most impressively usable plugins that I can think of. I know that I started this thread saying I thought something was better - and I’m still not sure...but the FF stuff is just soooo easy to use. Really a plug-in design masterpiece.

I've been using Nova GE more lately too, and have been getting some great sounds. No shootouts, just using them. Slick GE as well and Slick EQ Mastering in a few places. Something about the sound of these plugins pulls me back to them, the sound quality. I want to use some abstract words but they will probably fail. They just sound good. The word clean comes to mind, but there's more to it than that, plenty of weight in the low end if you need it, with all three of them. Dancing about architecture.

Have been using ff for about 5 year’s now, interesting to read about other good plugs/eq, but I’m staying on the porch!

I just wish their plugs sounded better. Pro C2 is so bleh. TDR has the best knob weightings despite the oft ugly interfaces. They’re just too easy. For reverb though, PSP EMT 2445 and Relab Sonsig are caveman easy to sit. Select preset, turn some knobs, and they almost always sound good.

I keep hoping for a Slick EQ GE 2, they might be working on one, a fourth band would do it for me, on my dream list. Not sure what they will dream up but I'm sure it will be good.
