Who is familiar with the V376? I know it was the solid state replacement for the original tube V76 (I have a Mercury V76m) but every review I’ve seen appears to suggest it is a desert island pre. Thinking about using one with my Neumann U77 which is supposed to be an excellent match.

I'm sure it's good, don't know it.

The Fuse Vpre-376 is great. I’m sure the hardware is better if you can get it restored and find long out of production transistors.

Forgive my cynicism but I fail to see how a mic preamp plugin can provide an accurate representation of the original unless the characteristics of the alternative hardware preamp used to capture the original recording is completely neutralised first.

The solid state German broadcast pres have those who love them and those who find them to be nothing special. Of course on so much of this stuff I bet it’s all about condition, I mean if my opinion of Neve was based on the first modules I used that needed a really good tech I would be wondering why anyone would want this crap, instead I tried to get my wife to name our son Rupert!

I had a racked pair for a while. They sounded very nice. I remember on acoustic they sounded surprisingly similar to my UA LA610. Sold them, in part, to fund the start of my 500 series rabbit hole.

Was that a MK1 LA610 because I would rank the MKII as one of the worst pre's I have heard. In fact I hoped there was something wrong with it because I had never heard a pre as muddy and mushy as the MKII to the extent that it got relegated to the "Never use in a million years" category.

I'll stop hesitating to say....I suspect they live in the same zone as so many other discrete transistor pre's of the time, like RCA BA-31/71/72 and GE BA-25 in America, plenty of others too.....and all those sound pretty bad if the caps are original, unless you're only making garage rock records then maybe it's a plus. On the plus side, I've rarely encountered dead transistors unless a module type likes to eat the outputs (I can't think of one offhand). Altec 9470/75 can be blown up if the case ground isn't connected or comes disconnected, they turn into RF receivers and kill the transistors.

The plugin sounding good is the main reason most people want this pre. It's 1000 unracked in God knows what condition if you want to take a swing at it.

I have the Signature Edition, so it’s basically a MKI but painted black and filled with NOS Telefunkens. Edit: As a side note, the LA610 might be a preamp that is especially sensitive to which tubes you're using. Its a casual observation but I've met more than a few people that hate them, and more than a few that love them (myself included). The one thing in common with all the people that loved them...awesome NOS tubes. YMMV

I love the 376! It's really open. It's a beautiful preamp. One of the best of the old german preamps!

I’m seeing insane prices for “original” vintage gear that looks like it was salvaged from a garbage dump. Some may think that 50 year old dried out electro caps are cool and add to the hipster vintage vibe but I ain’t one of ‘em.

Well I have 3 Neumann PV76 which are Neumann's version of this and they are excellent.

Is there anything close to the related TAB u373? The plugin is explosive to say the least.
