I'm interested in the upcoming Soyuz made TULA mic. It looks brilliant and will probably sound really good. I was never a lover of SM7b's, but did see their value after doing a few podcasts for some friends with my high end mics and it was just too big and noisy. tulamics.comIf this new Shure happens to sound as good as the SM7b that would be cool. I never fancied buying a $399 new or $300 for second hand mic I don't really like very much. Weren't they about $200-$250 only a couple of years ago?
$200 I might consider... maybe. It is, after all, just a glorified SM57 with no transformer and some filtering.....
Prices sure go up when things get "popular"....
I sold one for about $250, then the price on the new ones went up, I paid about a hundred more for my replacement one. The packaging and the filters make it quite a bit different from the SM57, but the SM57 with an A2WS is a great handheld pseudo version of the SM7B. The "USA President" microphone. Both of these are my first reach for dynamic mic vocals.

SM7b has been $399 for what, a decade? I've purchased a couple stretching back many years and that's always been the new price for me.

So was I. I don't know if Shure plays the MSRP vs street price game or not but they've been $399 at retailers for many years.

Unless your smart enough to call the perpetual winner of Shures sales award that is named after said dealer, but the then I could be Full of shit. Oh but then that Award hung above my head for years pointing like a Compass.

I was responding to the idea that they were "$200-250 a couple of years ago" not the notion that you might be able to swing a little discount off the $399 street price from a friendly salesperson. All the same, nice job on the sales awards. <thumbsup>

I remember the price going up about $50 on new ones some time in the past few years.

A bummer to find out I didn't have A Grain Of Experience. Could have been getting $100 off on SM7bs. Then again, even if that were true, I've never cared for haggling over things. I don't want a big song and dance when I buy gear. If someone makes something and I think it's worth the price, I'll buy it. If not, I won't. I'm unwilling to allocate headspace to retail tug-of-wars.

Shure put in a MAP policy around 2000, it isn’t that strict. Through the 90’s we were streeting 57 & 58’s around $79 and change, that was considered some of the best prices in the country and in fact a couple of cents less than first column on the dealer price sheet.
