Great time to grab Apollo X 8p. Now you get a Satellite octo for free 😊

That is a tempting deal... free octo is nothing to sneer at. Absolutely! I hit on my third Apollo and am waiting for an octo in a few weeks. Generous offer by UA

I ordered a x6 and will get a quad satellite. The x8p offer is tempting, but I can't justify the cost with the extra preamps I don't need. I already own an Apollo 8p and a quad I got with this same deal a few years back. So I'll now have 18 DSP chips for mixing. That'll work for me!

Yup, same, but as I was jumping back into uaville, bought an octo and 10 plug deal, register on last day of previous plug deal, got $2,000 in plugs, not too shabby!

I got an X8P with the offer. Came on Tuesday. Yesterday tried recording the drum kit with the Unison Preamps (Neve 1084s and Helios) instead of using my outboard (REDD47s, TG2s, 1072s, Germanium Pres) and the truth is that it was extremely simple, can open another session without caring if the settings are being changed or not, and soundwise I wasn´t missing anything! It was even way more fun swaping compressors and preamps instead of repatching everything. I´m using LUNA after years of Pro Tools and I couldn´t be happier. It was just a live tracking session, we had the drum kirt properly miced and got the guitars, bass and vocals running through load boxes/DIs to have them on the cans. I can see myself using these Unison preamps for everything. I got tired of having everything set up for a session and wanting to use one preamp for something else, then it would always lead to having to reconfigure everything again.

That's the thing about UA unison, does it sound exactly the same ,no, close Enuff, in the sense that you are happy with the resulting sound in the mix, and appreciate the workflow benefits: many conclude, yes.
While Luna is still not even a year old, it too has some attractions, obviously in the UA environment.
Glad that worked out for you !

I picked up an Apollo x4 a few months ago when the plug-in deal was running because I was really interested in Luna and wanted to give it a try. After after tracking and mixing a new song in Luna with the x4 I sold my entire Apogee 16x16, 2x6se card, and Apogee remote. I loved the sound of the Apogee Symphony, but the Apollo - Luna integration was just too enticing. Now I have the Apollo x16 on the way via the satellite promo. This will give me the x4 controlling the x16 and 3 satellites for 30 processors during mixing. Now if UAD would just get I/O hardware insert capability running in Luna I will be even happier. Since I also have the UAD OX amp I like the fact that the Apollo has the sample rate conversion feature since the Ox only outputs digital at 44.1 and I rarely record at 44.1. This was one of the features I missed with the Symphony system. Wow, re-reading this is looks like I've bought into the entire UAD ecosystem. . I think I remember Wiz saying something to the effect of how simple it was just to come into the studio and flip a couple switches and be up and recording in minutes since he switched to an Apollo and I would have to totally agree.

Wow. That's a big move. I've been pretty impressed with the little UAD x4. I got it hooked up to a patchbay so I can use some of my hardware like my Silver Bullet and Bricasti. I think the sound may be different, but subjectively nobody I know has been able to tell the difference between things I've recorded using this vs the Symphony setup. Looking forward to getting the x16. All in all a pretty smooth transition and the workflow is much nicer for my needs.

I've thought about making the switch back to Apollo from Motu for the ease of use alone. I am in the middle of switching computers and I have to redo my Motu routing matrix, which means I have to re-learn how to do it. And I haven't done it yet. And every time I have a few minutes of inspired creativity, I haven't been able to just walk down, flip and switch and go. I think the Motu routing uses a different part of my brain than creativity.

Wondered who grabbed that! You can save templates in UA console, so you power up , hit record and go: sort of. Getting back into ua has been pretty seamless so far here.

I also made the big switch when I got into the apollo system. I had an Aurora (n) which I loved, but was having a lot of problem with protools trying to integrate my outboard and dialing in the roundtrip and so on to actually be able to mic in a hybrid style. Also wasn‘t happy that I had to leave everything patched and untouched when I was working on a mix. I started with an X4 to be able to record ideas at home but somehow got into the plugin world and found them to be really cool. Then I somehow ended with an octo and with the double down program and a cool sale into a second octo and I started taking my mixes home, doing everything in the box, and though it wasn‘t exactly the same, I felt like I had more flexibility to try things out and change things in the middle of a mix. Then I swapped my Aurora for an X16 and never looked back. Now with the X8P I‘m seriously askibg myself if I need all my outboard. I have a lot of cool things there. Maybe it‘s just a phase and if I sell things I might regret it and will convince myself that digital sucks. But right now I would swap my x16 for another X8P and would be happy just with that!

I just did a:b mixes ob vs ib and listened carefully.
While there was a difference, with a small preference for the OB, the IB mix didn’t in anyway sound bad or deficient and had all the conveniences , which even in a personal studio are compelling.

In a surprise move, UAD has canceled this promotion early. It usually runs through the end of the year.
I wonder if there's a hold up issue with manufacturing or something?
A note in my account still says I should be getting a satellite. But even if you still see the promotion on Sweetwater's site, there is a link for details to UA and that says the promo is over.

I was actually starting to think with all the talk around here that I need to consider whether it’s time to make a big switch. When I looked last night, everything still said ‘til 12/31.

Asahi Kasei factory fire. Nobody can get chips. UAD uses AK AD chips. Everyone who uses AK is screwed. They need to support their existing customer base rather than create demand they can’t fulfill. The manufacturers using Cirrus, TI, and AD ADCs are going to clean up. Everyone else either has to redesign their products or wait a year for AK to get their chip fab back online. They have the money from their primary chemical business.

Dag. Well, there goes my plan to switch. Guess I’m sticking with Motu. Yeah, it's super annoying to have to make so many changes at once, too. I've been trying to decide whether to stick with my Metric Halo - it won't work with anything above Mojave unless I upgrade it to their new 3D platform. But an Apollo won't work with my computer (original Mac Pro tower) b/c of no Thunderbolt.

Yup, Drew said Ua is honouring everything up till Nov11th, good for those who pulled the trigger, not so good for those played the waiting game.
I bought an octo and took the $2000 plug deal as I didn’t really need the quad, could have sold it, but the plugs are worth more.

I can imagine that there will be a change in the planning for more than UA. When I read about it, I thought that octo satillite was just a memory. But if it's like you write kcatthedog then I should be in the loop with my registration 3/11. Sorry if I encouraged many RGOs with this thread and hope that most of them hit before 11/11. Hope this does not cause too much trouble for UA planning............. Strange 2020

It's actually the 13th. So you can go buy today and still be eligible.
BTW, this impacts the entire industry, look for the fallout in all manner of ways in the coming days/weeks.
On the bright side, we're reacting with some cool new product bundles coming soon, stay tuned.
