My understanding is that the mixer/routing preferences are saved on the physical unit itself, so yes it should work. But I’m assuming there’s a way to save a backup file to another location, for safety. That's also my take. I can save my settings on my machine no problem.

I switch my 16A between my MacBook Pro and iMac once in a blue moon and the routing I had set-up on the last computer is still in place when I connect it to the new one.

Cool that's more like what I was wondering, if the units somehow reset between machines. I know it's probably not the case but I don't want to find out the hard way.

I have two 16a and the settings follow the units. I racked my "secondary" unit for a remote with a different machine, and forgot about this. It was set as avb slave, so grabbed the primary and used it. Did not need to reprogram.

Strange. Do you see the audio activity lights blinking in the MOTU routing when your audio through 1-2? In the device tab, those aren't muted there are they? I've been saving versions of my setups as I go in case I do something to break one. Luckily I have not had a situation that I couldn't figure out now that I know how things flow. It's still overly complicated, but at least I sort of get it now. I had my routing saved too, still wasn't working. No blinking lights on 1-2. Nothing on the 24ao meters for 1-2. No idea what was going on. Just updated my firmware on both units. Still wasn't working. Rebooted a couple times, computer and units, reloaded my routing, finally got it back up and running. Literally, have no idea what the issue was. Lost probably an hour at the top of 2 different sessions yesterday, then came in 3 hours early for my session tonight to get this together. Seems all good right now though, and the firmware update at least seems to be a good one to improve the mixer ever so slightly. Just wish I had a clue on what the hell went wrong... Well as much as I love my MOTU this is the dark side that is a bit maddening at times. I often have issues where I will be working and a few channels will not pass audio. Usually power cycling and rebooting brings it back. I also have a 24Ao that loses connection with the AVB network every once in awhile. Power cycling usually fixes this.

It feels like a computer or DAW issue when I lose playback, partial or whole. DP on my older system with the PCI interfaces would lose playback tracks in the same manner. Many times now it feels like a sleep or screensaver issue. No facts to back that up.....

If your using Pro Tools Motu support said this was a issue with PT The fix is exactly as you stated . Unfortunately no permanent fix As a side note a friend with an ua Apollo has this same problem but not as often.

A few dozen hours and I haven't seen this stuff happen yet. I've left the units on for a whole day in between using them and haven't yet experienced a disconnect or lost channels. I have noticed that the USB system slows down considerably when the units are turned on and connected though, so maybe it's related.

For me it's rare enough I'm not primed to know what the problem is when it happens, I always futz around with several other things first. But it is a regular problem.

Many times now it feels like a sleep or screensaver issue. No facts to back that up..... When my audio cuts out its always related to me doing something in the DAW, like opening a VI while audio is playing and simultaneously (accidentally) hitting a quick key for something. That momentary strain on resources when you open a VI, coupled with anything else seems to trigger it.
