I had this unit in the rack for almost a year now and have used it from time to time to beef up bass and kick drum tracks, but now I have re-discovered it as a tracking equalizer for all sorts of synthesizers and keyboards. It works so well to make digital string sounds, Rhodes and Mellotrons fit into the track.
Does anybody else have this EQ in use ?

Never seen it, but looks rad. How much for that puppy?

Never seen it, but looks rad. How much for that puppy? You can only buy it as a kit from AML. It costs around 795 british pounds + tax, shipping and tubes. All in all around 1100 euro for the parts only.

Would love to hear a before/after of you processing something through it. Definitely been curious about it as a tube warmer/saturator box.

Acustica has a plugin version of it in their Fairchild series plugin (Ultramarine). I don't know if it's captured from the ez hardware or if it's from an original. I do know it sounds killer. I don't love the 660/670 plugin in Ultrmarine, but the 627 EQ is amazing.

I personally go the other route.... the bigger the better. Not a huge fan of 500 series (besides the price tag) and absolutely hate the tread of these mini-synths and eurorack. To me these tiny-gear things are like trying to play a 1/3 sized guitar or something....It just doesn’t feel right. Like it’s been shrunk down. I want 3U pultec style interfaces for everything

For me that also comes down to the ability of servicing my gear and diagnosing any problems more quickly and easily. Bigger is better
Working on a mini 80’s Fostex 8 track is a nightmare lol...compared to something like a Ampex machine.

Hmm, no BA-6A's or Fairchild's or Pultecs or 1176's or LA-2A's for anyone with a 2RU limit!

Hmm, no BA-6A's or Fairchild's or Pultecs or 1176's or LA-2A's for anyone with a 2RU limit! all 1176's are 2u? Lots of options now for Pultec style EQs in 2u for mono or 3u stereo or similar. Even 500 for solid state versions. Fairchild I've give exception to because it's a stereo unit. There are LA2a options in 2u as well. and yeah no Ba-6a for me haha

Whatever. Lots of 5RU, 6RU, 8RU gear around here.

Funny I'm even posting in this thread. This is a Fairchild branded EQ that NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD OF OR SEEN. It's sole marketing angle is 'FAIRCHILD'. It may be great. So are a bazillion other obscure EQ's that you could never market as recreations, due to the blank stares. : )

Its has youtube demos online.
Maybe I over exaggerated that 'bigger is better' in reaction to 500 series, but I can at least get down with the '2U or bigger' mentality. My UA 1176 and Pultec EQH-2 clone certainly feel very nice and no issues there.
I just think overall when something is a clone it should be both in the circuit and original interface. No need to change anything.

Once folks gain familiarity with Collin and his products, it's more about whether he produces something that meets one's needs or interests. At least, that's how I see it.

Acustica Audio has a plugin emulating it in their Fairchild suite, the one called Ultramarine. It sounds gigantic.

Reviving this old thread to say I borrowed one of these from a friend all week and it really sounds amazing and classy. Was thinking it might be just a different flavored Pultec, but the magic is in the Roll knobs.
If it were 4U stereo, it’d be an instabuy. Even still, I won’t be forgetting the way it sounds anytime soon.
Recommended for those with more rack space than me!

How many tubes are in this thing, and has anyone ever cracked it open to see if it'd be possible to make it stereo without increasing size?
