I have had some 47 variants over the years and want to step it up a notch but the budget does not quite go as far as a Flea or Bock as i am just a hobbyist. So the Horch RM2J has peaked my interest. Being in Australia there is no try before you buy and no one stocks these higher ends mics unless you fly across the country and beg the distributor for a test on site. For all you Horch users there am i correct in thinking that this mic has most of the vintage attributes of a 47 with a slightly more modern sound? i could only gather this summary from all my reading online, but the proof will be in just buying the golly thing and seeing what it is actually like. Any further thoughts would be appreciated.

Well from the description of the mic with a 4 micron membrane and odd tube I wouldn't imagine it sounds much like a U47. The Flea 47 next is almost exactly the same price and I'm sure sounds closer to a U47.

Are you referring to an original RM2J (later known as the Urton M2) or the now MKII? The older/original mic was a cross between 47 & 49 & really did sound like what you’d expect a 47 to sound like - huge sound. The “new” version supposedly has a different capsule & other things. I haven’t heard it.

The Heiserman H47 Tube is what you want........... Heiserman sounds wonderful too. Embarrassment of Riches. But the A League IMHO starts pricewise with the Heiserman on up $$$... Chris
