I would love for this to work...does it not sound a little boxy? I'm just listening on the laptop which tells me nothing...but it certainly sounded like the reflections were gone...but it seems like it added boxiness. kaoticaeyeball.com/

OK - maybe it's just because I'm listening on the laptop...but does the vocal not sound dramatically better without the contraption on it?

yeah I gotta say that it sounds pretty bad. In the first video I loved the room sound. With the ball it sounded choked. It still kinda had room sound but had a middy nasal quality. The second video had almost zero room tone, and with the ball had that middy nasal sound added. This has to truly be a gimmick product, because it doesn't work at all.
That means it'll sell millions at guitar center.

For real...those spaces are awesome...And wouldn't the outdoors be the ultimate space? (If you could stop he noises...) No reflections...

Yeah...... that first room sounded great without that contraption on it, and the girls vocal definitely made me have that sort of cross eyed feeling with it on (odd, yes, but I dunno any other way to put it).

So...guess what floated into my hands out of the blue...No - I didn't get it from Kaotica, so I won't be shy about my thoughts.
Haven't tried it yet, but I'll let you know.

I'm very skeptical on this one. The first example did sound boxy.

That's what I kind of hear when I just sang through it with my headphones...my room is pretty dead as shit...but maybe I'll do a quick before and after.

I liked the natural reverb in the first one. Why would you want to kill that?

the first space was killer, if they'd have moved the mic out of that corner point and into the room more, it would have sounded just amazing, that aye yai yai ball is funny, sounded wooly and hooded on both vids to my ears.

...I saw Sinsay's positive review of it up on his Mic Rehab FB page...he clearly liked it...is this the same unit, JK?...

He's got a room with no treatment - which makes what he does even more impressive. So, maybe it will work for him. Also, who knows...maybe the sound it gets with the eyeball is what it's really supposed to sound like. But I kind of doubt it. I've been super lazy doing family stuff this weekend so I haven't tried it. Was planning on singing some harms tonight, but I have Ray Donovan, series finale of True Blood and The Leftovers to watch. Priorities.
Btw - would this thing totally impede the polar pattern?

Say you have a cardioid mic, with sensitive lobes to either side from the rear of the mic.. Now add a mechanical filter that not only changes response in relation to the frequency response of the material used, but also does so due to the difference in wavelengths of sound due to the extremely close proximity.. In other words, it's a bad idea.

In fairness, if the objective of the designer was to remove the sound of the room? It seems to work.

Why not put together a vocal booth if the room isn't treated? Four pieces that can be hung from the ceiling in a minute, and taken down when not in use.

I would imagine you could work around the boxiness if you had to - with EQ. I'm about to use it for some harms today...it'll be interesting to see what it does.

Initial reaction after doing vocals...
Definitely seemed to add some boxiness or low mids to it. But - it seems to kind of tame some of the essines. Interesting. More thoughts after I EQ

Just how difficult it is to carve out a good sound. It definitely does the whole ISO thing - just adds some boxiness. Don't know if I'll use it again, but if you're recording in your tile and wooden bedroom, it could be a decent tool.

I tried it today and there isn't any radical boxy-ness as others have stated IMO. In fact, very little change except in room ambiance. This would be a godsend for live radio people as well as people who have poorly or untuned rooms they are dealing with. Good product!

I had my singer back away from the mic a hair more also. It was a girl vocal, so maybe I will hear it more in male vocals when I get to that.

Maybe I'm hearing things then. This calls for an unscientific "with and without". Seemed to me it added some low end resonance.

Reflection thingey did this) as my room is diabolical. Hey, I'm just a hobbyist. But if this does what it says on the tin? I'll probably get one. For now, my judgment is reserved. Cheers, Geoff
