It’s REALLY good. Dang... I bought it. It is expensive, but it is not like any EQ plugin I’ve heard. Pretty impressive for an algorithm that is 25 years old. It’s a 1:1 port from the original outboard unit. It sounds amazing. www.softube.com/weiss-eq1

Sorry: $499 usd: what a joke. Keep in mind that the hardware was something like 10 grand. This EQ rivals some of the higher end outboard EQ’s I’ve used. With the discount for current DS1 users it’s around 350. Definitely pricey but an incredible EQ

One thing to consider on this EQ - from my understanding, since the original is digital, and since Softube made the deal directly with Weiss, it's a 1:1 port over of the internal code of the original EQ. An exact replica - minus the converters of course. Not sure if they have taken that into account or not. I know with some of the Lexicon port overs, the converters played a pretty influential part of the sound. Yeah, the price is high, but seems in line. If you don't dig the price, you can always get another modeled EQ de jour.
I'm going to pass though. I've got my eye on some pristine 2055's that I can get at a really, REALLY good price, and I'm going to go that direction. Plugins will always be available. The 2055's won't. I'd still like to try the Weiss at some point though.

Just not sure how or why I need to buy another SW EQ. Guess I should demo. Today I used Acustica Gold on stolid and think “damn that’s better. I get it.” Then, because it was a hog, I dropped in UAD Harrison 32C. And I had forgotten how good that one was...but I guess I’ll have to demo.

When my CPU can't handle it (which is often) but I want the Neve EQ "thing," I reach for the Plugin Alliance Lindell 80 Channelstrip thing. It's not too far off from Gold. Not quite as good, but really not bad at all. (Just in case you need yet another EQ plugin after the Weiss.)

Although I’ll probably use it on some individual tracks, I do master for clients fairly often. I would have probably passed on it otherwise

I'm sure there will be sales and coupon codes etc. I wouldn't count on too many: Softube ain't like Plugin Alliance or Waves... Nobody can beat Waves on sales. They are basically on a permanent basis almost.
However, I definitely have gotten some of the consoles on sale, so it is possible.
In fact there is one now. Instead of 299 for the American class A it's 135.
The Weiss DS-1 is 399 instead of 549 etc.

With the coupon code I posted above, anyone who owns the DS1 collection can upgrade for around $350. That includes the new EQ1 and the new Softube 1 Weiss channel strip as well. I don’t have console 1 but that’s a pretty decent price for two world class plugins.

If you own console 1, I agree: the combo deal is attractive .

Let me know if you want a console 1, I have the metal original one, and I could use that money to buy a new synth I even put ssl like stickers on it to make it look cool haha
