I have a GrahamTec 1176 blueface that has just started emitting a high frequency whine/hash it is random and if I turn knobs or take it in and out of the chain it usually goes away. Does anyone know of a reputable repair facility that will be the least likely to turn into a Shannon deal? Maybe I just need to break down and get a 76A from Audioscape but I'm a little light in the funds now.

I'm not sure where you are located, but Dave Wheeler in Nashville is excellent. He fixed my Drip La2a awhile back. PM me and I can give you his contact info.

That was years ago.

That was years ago. I'm not sure. When I bought stuff from him from before he seemed a bit shady. It took him ten months to build the piece after I paid the entire price upfront and there was zero email contact. He wouldn't even respond. He also built some CAPI VP26's for me that were supposed to be stepped and then showed up variable. He offered to have me send them back and he would redo them but at that rate I didn't want to send anything to him. Of course now a days 10 months doesn't sound like a long time compared to other things I'm still waiting on but you know.... And since I lost mics to Shannon for 3 or 4 years and had to pay extra to get them restored and returned I am squeamish on shipping stuff into the unknown.

I believe the Grahamtec stuff is build with MNAT boards and similar (maybe the same) parts as Hairball units. I would recommend going on the Group DIY forum, stating what your problem is, and you’ll probably get a response from someone who can walk you though repairing it (or at least things to try)
Otherwise I’d try Preston Tate White. He’s the house tech at Southern Ground but takes outside work...especially now.
