Anyone used the Audient Nero? It has ADAT in and I'm interested in using it as my DAC (in addition to its features as a monitor controller). Whats the conversion like? Are there any other monitor controllers, around $1000 or under, that have ADAT/Toslink in?
The answer to these questions will determine if I impulsively buy some other gear. Thanks

Thanks I still love the TC BMC2 though it's discontinued. If you like it, watch out the used market. The conversion sounds analytical. I still use my DA 10 but I could live without it, yes its on my selling list. There is a difference but it's no big deal .., given that the converters in the BMC2 are from the TC6000 its a wonder that they can stink on the Lavry. I like the fact that the volume knob on the BMC is digital controlled, no LR issues. I hope for a reissue sine Behringer bought TC. The BMC2 just was wrong marketed.

Thanks You might consider the Presonus Central Station. It has Adat/toslink in, up to 192k. It got heavily maligned on the purple site a long time ago for sounding bad, but that condition occurred when you used the remote control. Without the remote, it’s clean, and it has a lot of nice routing options, IMO. Plus, I think they’ve cleaned that problem up on the current version. As for its converters, well, for me, they were better than my Digidesign mBoxPro, but not as good as my first generation RME ADI. Serviceable, but you get what you pay for. Im two generations past that level of DA these days, at considerably greater expense. On a budget, it could be a very good option, I think.

I think Sam Guaiana on this forum bought one. It replaced his Presonus Central Station. He said on GS that he more than thrilled for that.

Thanks for the input, the TC BMC2 looks interesting. For comparison, what interface are you using the Lavry with?

Man, I just don't know if I can get over my bias against the Presonus Central Station. I've never used it but I've heard sooo many people shit on it, like you mentioned, that it just doesn't feel like a good purchase...irrational, I know. I was thinking something more along the lines of a Dangerous Source, or older D Box, BUT they only take AES, and I'd rather not have to get one of those Toslink/AES adapters.

It really did get crapped on. A friend of mine had one with the (then) optional remote. His sounded cloudy. I couldn't afford the remote at the time. Mine sounded clear. We disconnected his remote and voila! Based on Presonus' description, they took care of the issue in the Rev 2 version, but still. I think if your budget can handle it, go for the higher end option, but if it can't, consider the CS. Additional note: I wouldn't be afraid of an adapter to get to AES. I think there are some good ones out there at moderate prices.

Thanks, its a mute point now. I was right about to pull the trigger on an insanely good priced MOTU 16A on Reverb. I was thinking of using the ADAT outs to go to a monitor controller to free up some I/O. But...apparently the selling realized how absurdly low his price was ($900) because he relisted it for much more. Oh well. I'll punt this decision till I get a new interface.
Thanks everyone for the replies.

You might consider the Presonus Central Station. It has Adat/toslink in... I'm pretty sure the TosLink on my Central Station didn't do ADAT, just SP/DIF...
