Is anyone running Catalina on external SSD?
I’ve been doing some research but there’s 1 million threads on the subject and I’m wondering if anyone here has successfully done this.
I have stayed on high sierra as Mojave had problems running On external SSD.
If you are running it successfully.... What sort of SSD are you using?
Cheers

I'm on Mohave, from a Samsung EVO 1TB SSD in a Other World TBolt 4 bay enclosure. Trashcan MacPro, no issues.
Staying away from Catalina until I'm positive I don't need any more 32 bit apps.

Ah why, instead of just partitioning ?

Ah why, instead of just partitioning ? It’s not about that it’s about ssd apps partitioning and Slow boot times

A T-bolt SSD is no slower than a built in drive in my experience. If it is, I haven't noticed it. So it's certainly not -defective- slow. All my apps, DAW, plug-ins run on that disk. Session data goes on another one in the same enclosure.
To answer Kcatt, my music computer doesn't need the latest OS at all. But I don't use Catalina on my laptop either. Mohave both of them. I still have my internal SSD, as a backup boot drive, but at 256gigs, it ran out of room a long time ago.
What's the upside of making a separate partition for Catalina?

I understand.
I thought wiz was implying his boot drive was slow. I thought he had a computer he could upgrade himself if so then he could install the fastest ssd he could buy.
I think mac os’s get wierd with a double install: 2 OS, bit you can select your boot drive, so you can have a partitioned boot drive, I think, with 2 OS’s.
Personally, I‘d stay away from Catalina, but wiz has very high IT knowledge and skills, so I defer to him.
