Tell me about these?
VP28's are a 312 with the second half of the ML2.
ML2's have added low pass filters and 1 fewer transformer.
I assume that VP28's have more tone because of the added transformer. These can be used as a preamp or line amp. Why are the ML2's more money? Why would someone choose an ML2 over a VP28? It seems like if the ML2 is audio bacon, the VP28 is audio bacon with a side of sausage.
Are guys tracking with preamps running into VP28's, then to Pro Tools like they do with ML2's?

A big part of the ml2 cost is that sweet sweet elma switch.

I use them for makeup gain after summing...and obviously as EQs. I think the ML was just to have filters and two step volume increments?

Anyone run a mic into a VP28 into another VP28 (LINE MODE) into their DAW?

I have a lot of the ML2s. No VP28s(yet)
Im going to be using them as actual faders before a summing mixer. Not automating them obviously as they are stepped.
But they are great for another gain stage control post other gear for instance pushing an 1176 output for more color/distortion but pulling back the volume with the ML2 to get the gain staging right.
They cost more due the Elma switch mostly which is buttery smooth and awesome. Even though the VP28 has another transformer. The ML2 also has more parts and two discrete Voltage followers. Is a bit more of a build, not hard, but takes some time as there are 5 pcbs and 2 switches to wire and 2 transformers to wire.
Can't comment on the sound difference as I haven't used the VP28. I think drbill has used both though..

Anyone run a mic into a VP28 into another VP28 (LINE MODE) into their DAW? Sounds like a VP28 Platinum lol They do sound a little more euphonic in my estimation.

I'm looking at the API Box 2.
8 channels have API preamps with the full channel path on the left side.
The 16 channels on the right are just passive summing.
Basically I'm thinking about the best way to get mojo throughout.
8 VP28's would give me 16 channels of API mojo during tracking and mixdown. I could keep my Locomotive and Weight Tank tube preamps and a pair of Sound Skulptor Neve style and have my bases covered.

I'd try a pair or two of the platnuims too. They sound super good in the capi examples.

Anyone run a mic into a VP28 into another VP28 (LINE MODE) into their DAW? Yep. I’ve got 8 VP28s and 2 VP312s. I love feeding one into the other as well as feeding different pres of mine into the line mode of a 28 (ISA215/Manley/Germanium clone, etc). CAPI always gives me a feeling I want to have. And too much is never enough.
