My Stam mk1 pretty much only works smashing a rock drum bus for me. Other than that, the meter is weird, and def really isn’t the SSL Bus sound I was used to from using the consoles for years and years. Looking forward to giving some Audioscape gear a try in the future! I have a bunch of original's here and it sounds and compress the same so there is definitely something not right with yours I am happy to have fix this for you at no charge or replace it with a MK2 I made several thousands of these and there were some issues with a few of them on a small batch so it is possible that yours is among them It's an easy fix if you would like me to take care of it I’m actually fine with it for what I use it for. Thanks for the offer though. Merry Christmas to stam land.

And will be the first in line to grab the Pye comp when you finally get around to releasing one (pretty please?! I promise you’ll sell a ton of them). Okay I made up the Pye but a man can dream can’t he?

Another bunch of Stam users claiming about a problem with their unit. And then I read Joshua writing on forums that there's not a single user unsatisfied or with a finicky equipment.
To get back on the thread, on the other hand, I just had good experiences with Audio Scape. Really good quality equipments.

One of the things I liked about both the AS and SA mki 4K bus comps, were their different tones. Once, I started using multiple comps on groups during mixdown and 1 on my 2 bus, I became more aware of the tone of each box and how settings affected how that element of the mix presented itself (attack and release), focussed the sound (ratio) and how things were complimenting each other and gelling in the mix. Also started referencing vu’s as a visual indicator, while being more concerned about what I was hearing.
I liked the mki in my drum bus for the tone, I use logic maybe it has something to do with that and just ordered AS on the 2 bus.
I am compressing but sort of not actually focussing specifically on that more it’s sonic affect ? My AS 4K isn’t going anywhere but I’d like to demo the SA4k mkii, curious about the transformers.
Anyway, back to the AS comp, which imparts a wonderful hi fi quality and that wonderful glueing effect.

I do recall saying that nobody has ever returned a functional unit to us for a refund in 7 years. I have made over 3.000 MK1 units and they sit across mix-buss of the worlds most renowned engineers and studios. The MK2 is a superior design and I am really looking forward to people trying that one. Apologies for commenting on this thread as it's about AS and merry Christmas to everybody, enjoy making music! So I recently received a Buss Comp from AS - way ahead of schedule which is really sweet - I was in that most recent presale. Showed up at my door in like a week.
Initial impressions are excellent. I don't have a whole lot of experience with this type of buss comp. Have it on my 2 master as a hardware insert right now. Following the general guidelines for mix buss comp - 30ms attack, .1 release, 2:1 ratio, threshold where the needle is just barely moving. Really brings a nice character to the sound and makes it feel more finished with the flick of that switch - cool!
I do have a question regarding the make-up gain. It seems to me that with make-up gain set at 0 that there is some gain being added. Is this just kind of how an SSL buss comp works? I would think since there is compression happening and no make-up gain that it should be slightly lower in volume - but it clearly sounds louder. To match volume I have to drop the make-up gain knob totally CCW - which is labeled as -5. Not that any of this really matters it sounds great and you need to use your ears. But I am curious.

Hey shawnh !!! Thanks so much for the kind words man!!! A couple other great settings for 2BUSS are: Attack = 10 Release = .1 (or AUTO if it works for the material) 4:1 But I typically park mine at the same settings as you listed above, I find the only controls I may tweak are ATTACK (from 30ms down to 10ms), RATIO (from 2:1 to sometime 4:1 depending upon the vibe I want) and ofc the SC HPF either ENGAGED or not. When using 4:1 I'll almost always have it in - when using 30ms, .1 and 2:1 I can go either way depending upon the mix. One other CRITICAL sidenote: pop the BUSS COMP on your 2BUSS as EARLY ON in the mix as possible - this will help you mix FASTER and also helps your mix come together quicker, often with less compression being used on individual tracks ;-) As far as the MAKEUP GAIN control - you are exactly correct! That behavior is by design and intentional. It was a popular mod on many of the 384 rack units - helps with the noisefloor, etc etc. PLUS, you get FREE GAIN (about 5dB) right off the bat which is always nice! Thanks again man! If you have the time and/or will, PLEASE leave a review of the BUSS COMP on the product page for it - the REVIEWS section is right below the TECH SPECS section ;-) BUSS COMP
