Hi guys, I have a Ride NT 2000, a physically well built mic which works well on many levels except it's sonic signature which I suspect is very much down to capsule . Ben from Beesneez has told me his k7 cap would be a big improvement and an Aus mob who I know nothing of called Open Plan Recording recommend their CK cap. Anyone have anything to fill in my picture? Cheers, Ross

Well I have put my CT12 into many Rode microphones. In every case it has been a vast improvement. The real flaw of Rode mics is their capsules. All manufacturers, including myself, will tell you that their capsule is the best option. Decide what type overall sound you'd prefer, the airiness of a CK12 type, the mid forward sound of a K47/67 and then make your decision based on reputation/real world recommendations from users and your price range.

Yeah. It’s all in the capsule

Tim, I hoped you might chime in.i would go for your cap all day long if it's an easy mod and worth spending on those electronics. ?

Well the mod itself is easy. I understand the price consideration. I have modded many NT1a's for ambient mics, which sound terrific, but the cost of the capsule is easily higher than the price of a used NT1a.

If I get a great sounding mic I'm keen as the rest of its operation - hpf, pattern selection, pad and the build are implemented with quality. Is it just a cap swap or are there electronics to change? Cheers, Ross

It is just a straight capsule swap. The CT12 sounds brilliant but if you wanted a Neumann vibe the CT67 is only 250 USD. Now I'm not saying this to rule out anyone elses product. You should still do your homework.

Tim, what would you recommend for a Rode NTK ?

Well Rode mics generally use a ck12 type capsule and sound very clean and open with a better version of that capsule. As I said, if you were more interested in a U87 midrange then a K67 type of for a U47fet vibe a K47 type.

tim I have your cap in my c12 and have been thinking bout sticking it in my wa-251, just to see hear ? I actually like and use the wa251 all the time, do you think installing your cap would, open it up a bit, more nuance and detail ? THx, back to other rode !
