Since months, I was awaiting that date with my neighbor a Russian Mandolin Player M. Bogdanava.
She asked me to track two of her compositions for mandolin.
I knew she was great, and she could drop names with ease, but there is no bragging - she speaks about it if I ask otherwise she creates an atmosphere of being equal. She worked with Daniel Baronboim or Sir Simon Rattle.
She did not expect anything and that made it easy to work with her. She did not care about that its not a big studio, she cared about delivering her part, and the rest was up to me.
We both were surprised how good it worked out.
If we are connected by love and joy everything is in the flow, a single selfish person in a project can ruin everything....

Working with great players is what brought many of us to this party and still makes it all worthwhile. The problem is less and less of the listening public cares or notices because we the AE’s and producers have gotten really good at making those with far less talent sound pretty good!

Yup. Great players make the job a blessing. Unfortunately there seems to be a shift away from musicianship and practice and a lifelong dedication to the craft of your instrument towards holding down one key and playing back some apple loops.

I can do that! I guess I can call myself and my dogs musicians now!

Interesting for all of us is that I have to fake the concert hall feel. The mandolin jumps in extreme dynamic changes
Not a single software reverb did the trick, they failed big time with those jumps.
They all sounded like something on top of the source, but not with the source.
And yes I know I repeat myself but I love my Yamaha reverb and it was just spot on and smile. If you can get an old 100 or 500 don't think too long they even go up in price. They have been sleepers for about 7 years now people recognize how good they are.
Learning never stops another proof that we can't make general statements about gear. It seems what gear works is correlated to the style of music.

Another reason why reverbs are hard to do. And a reason why the M7 is still king or other hardware units. I have to pinch myself sometimes when I realize how lucky I am to get to work with top tier musician's all the time. Nothing like it.

Same thing with playing with a band. If they are all better than you are, you are really styling, and probably learning fast.

It's great to have you back Eric even if it is to respectfully disagree😃 I bought a Rev 7 when it first came out and like a lot of Yamaha units it sounded metallic and underwhelming to my ears. YMMV, Cheers ,Ross
