I find UAD, Scheps Omni FET mode, Arturia FET, and probably bx Purple MC77 to sound a better than the IK. But I still grabbed it for free. Just wasn't winning my 1176 shootout.

I am not sure but this one is about 15 years old....that explains why its now part of a marketing strategy.
The only one I know giving good plugs away for free is Soundtoys, they don't do BS marketing they give you honest value.

8 years old. This is a pretty good plug still.

I got this since it was free. After installing and finding that it added 2.5GB of stuff I did not order, I uninstalled it. I already have Softube FET (favorite), Waves, PSP and a bunch of other 1176 type compressors. I really didn't like that it installed so much extra stuff (all in demo mode). I'm still interested in the PA Purple MC77. Why? I can't even answer that question. I'm a junkie. I seriously have a problem. I'm absolutely embarrassed on how much I spent on software this year. I should have used that money on some hardware items like a Daking mic pre, since I need a couple more channels. But it's hard to resist all the sales, even when I don't need anything more. That's my problem and I may seek professional help.

We all have that plug in collecting phase behind us. I have a buddy who owns over 1200 plug ins, and he just stopped form one day to the next. To create a good sounding piece of music you may need 10 different plug ins.... or less.
I only buy plug ins if the sonic s are outstanding.
This was in 2019:
Karzog True Iron, and the Brainworx SSL G Channel as well as DDMF Neve EQ. All around 30 bucks done.....

When I recently rebuilt my computers and re-installed all my plugins, I was amazed at how many "free" plugins I had picked up over the years. And how many of them never got used. I ditched most of them, as well as a bunch of plugins I paid for that never get used. Now the system loads faster and runs smoother. Dumping the Kazrog stuff was the most dramatic in making my system run better. YMMV.

Guessing their AAX implementation is not good. As for the "sounds amazing".....I was underwhelmed. I guess with all the hype I expected more. To each his own!! Glad it works for you.

I have spent thousands of dollars on plugins, which is funny when I look at my $300 worth of rack mixing gear. I guess I got my priorities in order, at least.

Plugins vs. Hardware is a lot like eating LowFat Chips vs. the "Real Thing" Chips. As much as you try to satiate yourself with the low fat versions (plugins), you keep finding yourself wanting more to "fill the gap" that's missing without the "real thing - i.e - fat". . With the real thing, you can get there faster, and with a more satisfying arrival - and maybe even put on less calories. . My experience..... I think that's the reason you sessions with 10+ plugins on every channel.... Less is more with Hardware. Guitar - get your priorities straightened out!!! LOL

I second this from my own crazy trip. But I also say some plug ins do the trick for me but its still looking for the needle in the haystack.
Hardware can tell you what plugs can or can't do. If you AB them level matched you may find your favorite plug ins as well.
This is what worked for me lately not only in my own home studio.
There is still the lust for another HW - 1176...someone needs to talk me in....

LOL well on this premise I should be the skinnier man but let's not get into that kind of battle I only use 2-3 plugins per-track but vocals and mix bus usually end up with 4-8 plugins

My only regret, is that this is a just little too long for a sig line. Dr.Bill, and MonkeyXX you both just gave me the last nudge for another "Weird Al" style Parody song! I'll try to record an Acapella version within a week-or so. It's the perfect follow-up to "Mangle With Care". Working Title "Plugin". Chris

... I'm still interested in the PA Purple MC77. Why? I can't even answer that question... You can always demo the PA Purple. I picked it up for $69 yesterday but I think the sale ends today. Nice plugin!

Is it different from other 76s?

To me it's a little cleaner and maybe a tad brighter. I liked it.

Yeah the PA Purple is very good. I used it on acoustic guitar and was impressed!
