If you buy it completely maxed out it can go up to only $53,000.00 Add the new display (with special glass) & it'll be around $59,000.00

I wonder how much of that is profit. It looks really good, I wish it wasn't so pricey.

Wouldn’t you think 75-80%, how much does it really cost to make a computer?

This is ridiculous. To upgrade from the small defacto 256 Gb of SSD to 1 Tb, you have to add 480 CAD$. A samsung 860 EVO is 200 CAD$.

I can only go up to around $40k for my computers.

The new mac pro's are marketed very clearly to video guys. And for them it may be a good deal. Especially because it's completely optimized for final cut pro, so everything is working perfectly together. I looked around for a bit, and try to piece together the same in a windows pc, guess what: about the same price, or even more expensive. The big difference in pc vs mac costs is that these start way higher then what we're used to in the pc world.
The big question is: do we need something like this for audio? IMO: no. We could easily do with an imac with some external ssd's for example (most of us anyway). Unless you're doing 1000's of virtual instruments maybe.
This is ridiculous. To upgrade from the small defacto 256 Gb of SSD to 1 Tb, you have to add 480 CAD$. A samsung 860 EVO is 200 CAD$. It's not a really fair comparison, because the samsung 860 EVO is a SATA SSD (max speed 550MB/s), while in the mac pro they use NVMe SSD's (theoretical max speed 32GB/s). NVMe ssd's are way more expensive, that's why the difference is so big. But still the markup is quiet nice

So, the basic starting price is around $5,500. For what they're offering, it's fair

Is over kill. But you can build a PC that in some ways is more powerful. The only thing this machine has that a PC couldn't really have(at this moment) is the 1.5Tb of RAM. Otherwise, you could build a more powerful PC for rendering by investing in the GPUS mainly.
For audio. The only new mac to buy is the mac mini. Only thing worth the money and plenty of power for audio stuff.

CPU heavy processes just run on the second Mac. It's also possible to use a PC Vienna does not care about the OS. The most facinating thing about Vienna is that it calculates so smart that even lifts the CPU power when it's running on the host computer. www.vsl.co.at/en/Vienna_Ensemble_Pro

Then max it out with 32Gb for half the cost.

The full Monte is like a Data Center in one PC....!
And I'm sure the Data Center size power bill would follow...

I'll build anyone a better LOOKING and BETTER spec'd MacPro running iOS for $77,777 Mmmmm... I don't think so. That said, the new Mac Pro is ridiculously priced. Mind you, there is some expensive stuff in there. DDR4 ram is expensive. And the biggest simms aren't even available yet, anywhere. The SSD storage isn't available for any other computer either. Just in some bloody expensive storage arrays. But, really, Apple, a foot for the screen costs 1.000$?

I just think there’s room for improvement. So I’d start with the maxed out model. Ditch the cheesy cheese grater case and put it in a real case. Something like a giant Fairchild or sta-level. And since it’s a bigger case, then you can add massive active cooling options to take it further.. Put a few extra features on the case so you can see performance on the VUs instead of having to open a window on the screen. Probably a small screen to monitor thermals and watts, that kind of thing. I mean for $60k it shouldn’t look like $2k

Somehow I feel like there used to be a thing where trust fund kids in music world would have a maxed out Mac for bragging rights, even though they didn’t actually need it. Now that the tag has moved beyond that for most, we have outrage.

I can only go up to around $40k for my computers. Well, that would be limiting you to only 15 tracks. You really need that extra 20K$ so you can go to 18 tracks.
