I got a good deal on a Komit and bought it just because it was a cheap way to fill up any empty slot in my rack There seems to be very little discussion of these comps (I've checked all the usual sources) but I'm wondering if any of you guys are rockin' them and how you like them...

I want to read more on these too. Kind of funny. Before Radial picked up the design they used to get favorable reviews. Now they say Radial on them have a better display and cost $500 instead of $900 & no more hype.

Sometimes I wonder about price tag relation to hype.

I did some digging on this about 1 year back and thought I read the circuit is the same as the original design but components are not.
not heard either.

I gotta say I find it perplexing. Not only has the hype disappeared but seemingly any discussion of these modules....
It's an interesting enough concept anyway for a marketing person to generate some interest you'd think...
Why wouldn't Radial put a DSLR on a tripod and film someone putting them through their paces....I think Zen Pro Audio is the only vid I can find of them in use....
Oh well, I paid only $300 for mine and I'm sure I'll get my money's worth, as I can always use more compressors...
Weird.

It's in the mail... But I'll start tracking with it mid week when it arrives.

Let us know what you think. I've been mulling the idea of getting one for a while. Just always something else I think I want more.

So I've received the Komit and have played around a bit with it....
I had a fathead II on a mic stand and decided that would be my 1st test... I ran it through a CAPI VP28 into the Komit.
My 1st reaction was that the -10/+4 switch was not enough for me and I was wanting for a threshold control. The gain needed for a ribbon was such that the gain reduction meter on the Komit was not even engaging....though I could hear compression....
While not happy with the realization that the meter is unreliable the fun started to happen after swapping out the fathead for a 57. The Komit came to life, the meter started tracking better and I began to appreciate the inherent simplicity of it...
Super easy to dial in a useable sound in seconds..(it's the same thing I appreciate in the Manley Elop...the gear makes it real hard to screw something up, especially useful when self-tracking).
It's straight up clean vca compression so it's much more utilitarian than exciting...but while messing around when disengaging the circuit I found u missed it....so that's good.
The one knob clipper will be fun to use. My 1st experiment will be on snare and I'll appreciate the simplicity of dialing in sizzle on the affected signal.
So my initial feelings are that while not an "exciting" module it's cost effective useful tool that I'm happy to have in the lunch box.

When you say "straight up clean vca compression", is it similar to the fmr comp?

When you say "straight up clean vca compression", is it similar to the fmr comp? That's what came to mind for me too. For $120 used you can have 2 channels for clean vca with a RNC and not take up the $60 lunchbox slot.

Good points. I don't have an rnc, but it's on my list...
I do like the clipper on the komit, which is a unique feature...
I'd rather purchase an rnc for stereo work than spend the $$ on another komit and lose a 2nd slot in the lunchbox...but I will appreciate in the interim that it's in the lunchbox and don't have to carry an rnc with me too...
One thing is sure is that I'll never run out of uses for and a hunger for more compressors of different flavors.

I'm actually thinking about grabbing a second lunchbox so I can have one permanently racked in the studio and the second one ready to be filled with what I need for remote work. Seems pretty handy as a grab and go.

I'm starting to really like this little box...
Tracking bass through a Genz Benz Shuttle head into a CAPI VP28 into the Komit...between the tube/transistor times from the GB, the gain staging colors with the VP28 and the ability to dial in hair from the Komit I'm enjoying the options....
