Wait....don't answer that.... I was all set to pull the trigger on SD3 with Decades, Rock Foundry, Rock Warehouse, Southern Soul and UKPop libraries.... Then I listened quite a bit. - Honestly, I don't think I'll use Decades more than occasionally, and even then, I'll be leaning towards real drums for that kind of schtick. Very cool jazzy stuff, but the more modern stuff didn't do much for me. - Rock Warehouse....meh....Decent, not great. I think the NI stuff is just as good. - Rock Foundry.....well, honestly, I was expecting more out of a Bob Rock produced piece. Maybe the demo's just don't do it justice. - SD3 core library. There was some decent stuff in there, but I don't need or want the 11.1 immersive content, and the thought of wasting 300-500GB on my valuable SSD drives for the core + additional above libraries started to wear on me. Honestly, the core library gets slammed quite hard by owners, but out of the above libraries, I thought it was the most useable for me. But even then, not awe inspiring. So..... I bought EZ Drummer 2 to get my feet wet with ToonTrack and then added the Southern Soul and UK Pop libraries. All in for around $175 as opposed to pushing $900. (Now I can buy more hardware!! Yay!! LOL). Both the expansion libraries I can use in SD3 should I end up going there. If I decide to upgrade to SD3 later, the SD3 upgrade price + $89 BF sale price on EZD2 is actually less than the current price on SD3. So no loss there.... So....to all you Toontrack guru's.....Am I going to regret not going all the way to Superior Drummer 3?? Am I expecting too much? Are their demo's just not that great. Or am I too jaded.... Curious. Will download over the weekend.

Curious, was BFD in your hunt?

Nope. Should it have been?
[Edit] - just looked up BFD and see that it's an FXxpansion product. That's a deal killer for me. EXTREMELY bad history with that company.

BFB has always been so buggy for me, and the routing was a nightmare. Sometimes I’ll still use a snare from there but mostly I stay away from it (and will never upgrade it) because it’s such a headache to use

I scored a ton of Ez drummer expansions from best service for super cheap. In fact I got Ez drummer2 and 8 expansions for less than $320 IIRC. I just need decent sounding loops to help with demo ideas.

I haven't pulled the trigger on the Decades either...probably wouldn't use it in pop productions much...I love the Southern Soul...but man, I use the Bob Rock constantly and those sounds are definitely better than the EZX's.

Looks like 2020 will be the start of "craziness" AKA drum samples for me. Gonna start from "free", then on up $$... Chris

I have to agree with the above.... that the Bob Rock Rock Foundry is awesome. Great toms, tight kicks, expansive ambient mic channels.
I also like the default library quite a bit, my biggest complaint being the kick drums.
You don't have to install all of the 11.1 stuff.... like you said it just takes up space. It's a separate install in the Toontrack Product manager.

I can't find an "upgrade price", only a discount for cross-grade from EZ2. I have SD2 and EZ 1. I'd like to get SD3, but don't want to pay $319 for it.

Toontracks is pretty snobby about the pricing on SD3 and the good SDXs. They’re well aware of what they’ve got.

You can get the crossgrade for around $300 right now, and EZ for $89. The two together is cheaper than SD3 right now.

Lack of high hat and snare articulation makes EZXs unusable here, even when they do have a charming overall sound like Southern Soul or the 4mic Indie Folk....but, then I’m not the guy who finds samples and plays TO them. If I’m finger drumming I want snare variance under fingers...and my marriage of Logic’s AI Drummer requires more granular hat articulation.
Obviously YMMV, but to me, “groove” is in the hat and snare ghosts.
