There was a time where I was too broke to buy gear or plugs and the Massey free demos were virtually the only plugins I used. Really nice stuff. The CT compressor and Tapehead especially.

I feel like most plugin companies are small independent (whatever that's supposed to mean in this context) shops with only a handful of developers, or even just a single developer.
It would be a lot easier to list the few plugin companies that aren't small.

I think the OP probably means for us to list "lesser known" plug-in companies...

Nembrini Audio. Maybe the next king of distortion plugins. And Pulsar. 2 plugins. Both awesome.

TriTone Digital was a small two-man team providing a handful of useful tools back in the day (hydratone, angel tone, colortone pro).
I think they probably stopped about 10 years ago.
Another reminder of why our support counts.

Totally forgot about them, but they were one of the first guys modelling gear based on IRs. I remember their first plugs with saturation artifacts which sounded nothing great.
Today we have plugs which get day by day more and more indistinguishable from the real gear and back in the 2005 we dreamed of this. Now we have it.... it is a big step up...
There are more and more plug ins which I like to use in 2019.

Yep. Salvator was in France, and Damon (I think that was his name) was in NYC. Great guys. I used to email them, and their support-energy was very "Audio-Scape-esque". Just a couple of producers making tools for themselves and their online "friends" around the globe.

TDR/Tokyo Dawn Labs should be mentioned. I've found their plugins compete with the best out there, and they give them away for free. I like them so much I bought the Gentleman's Editions because I felt compelled to give them money.

Wavelab Factory.
I think even at Eventide they only employ a couple of developers and the others are marketing/project managers.

Wavelab Factory. I think even at Eventide they only employ a couple of developers and the others are marketing/project managers. Nothing is wrong with a great marketing if the product is good. It gets annoying to me when it's too much. Example. .. Being on the Slate Digital mailing list feels like a spam bombing. If I don't buy anything by the first one I probably stick with this for the 10 follow up mails with the same content. On the other hand when needed information about the Slate touch screen controller mtr it was a nightmare to get a clean comment regarding logic...
