Which one would be more ideal to add as a studio workhorse? Buzz SOC 1.1 or Daking FET III.
I already have a tube vari-mu (WT-COMP), 3 channels of solid FET (Drawmer 1978, and Lindell 17xs), 3 channels of Manley ELOP and 2 channels of VCAish (JDK R22).

SOC! but I'm an opto fan by far. The built in MS of the soc though makes it more useful I think.

The SOC 1.1 doesn’t have MS like the 20

The SOC 1.1 doesn’t have MS like the 20 Ah thank you for correcting me. The 20 is the one I'm getting. Didn't realize the MS wasn't part of the other. Just thought the stepped switches and different ratios was the difference.

The fet iii would probably have more control over dynamics then the opto. The fet iii does not have either the inout or output transformers which makes the sound a little cleaner. The Buzz has both in and out put xformers so that would give a little more colour to the sound especially when pushed. Inhave owned daking Fet Ii lightly different to the fet iii and i own the buzz arc1.1 with the soc inspired comp.

I loved my FET III for the tightness and smack it brought. However, it does gentle well too and thus ends up in mastering racks.

They are just 1:1 wired so don't impart much color really at all. Looks like a nice unit, shame you can't get it in stepped controls.

Actually I think the SOC only has output transformers. BLackdawg - is right there are input and output transformers in the FET III.

I haven't used the FETIII, but I LOVE my pair of FETII, so if they're anything like that, then get the Daking. You won't be disappointed. You can also very regularly find FETII's used for <800, so maybe consider snagging a pair of those. They're great swiss army knives. Mine live on drum buss mostly, but I've recently discovered how cool they are on the stereo buss, so time for another pair I guess.

Read some great things about them, love the stepped controls, and not super expensive right now. Thanks to all for for the tip!
