I've received dozens upon dozens of warning emails, texts, etc. from developers saying not to upgrade. Anyone upgrading at this point is either incredibly uninformed, or incredibly optimistic.

I mean anyone running a large amount of apps is super screwed. Including anyone on PT since it has parts of code that are 32bit and Catalina has no 32 bit...at all.
Avid will be scrambling for that fix! haha
As will others.
Maybe its finally time to go to windows full time..

Man, I'm glad that the only Apple device I own is an ancient iPod that I never use!

You can build an absolute monster of a machine for way cheaper than the latest macs. Put that extra money towards a nice big LCD monitor!

(Of course, I'd love to pay less, but they do make a solid product.) It's their incessant and constant upgrades every year. I literally can't go more than a couple years without half (most) of my software being hopelessly out of date. Unless I freeze myself in time (and I can't), they do me in every couple of years and it's a complete re-do.

Honestly the quality of products has taken a big dive in the last 10 years ish. I mean come on, a new mac pro is RIDICULOUSLY over priced. The old school cheese grater is screwed in 2 years Id guess, in part due to the exact thing you're talking about with updates. They will eventually do an update that the cheese grater can't run. You can build a PC that is the base Mac Pro for way way way less. Hell for 6k you could build a PC that would last a lonnnnnggg time. Its hard to fight for apple these days. They just aren't making it easy. Unfortunately.

I switched. PT runs great on Windows and I’ve got a keyboard remapping app that lets me use a Mac keyboard so cmnd opt etc key commands work just like they do in PT on Mac. The only argument I can understand for some people would be if they have I/O that doesn’t have windows drivers. (Symphony etc.). Otherwise, it’s a no brainer and a huge money saver and power boost.

Remember a while back when I made what seemed like a big stink about Apogee changing it's business model from making converters to making Apple interfaces? Everyone cried semantics? Here you go.
That concern is only for people using Symphony as an INTERFACE...if you're fronting an Avid HD IO (TDM, HDX, HDN)--you can continue to do so with the same digilink cable. If you still have an old Cheesegrater, using the exact same PCIe cards.
I love Apple kit. But, I don't really CARE about the OS as much as I need stuff to WORK...and NOT have to put money into studio kit because I bought a new iPhone that needs a new iTunes that needs a new OSX...there's too much $$ on the line to count on a company with Apple's track record over the last decade.
