I'm not one to usually start "this or that" threads, as I'd prefer to just try and listen myself. I do intend to get both sets of monitors in house and do some comparing.
That being said, now that both of these have been out in the real world for a while, I am curious about opinions on one versus the other. I suppose I might be open to other suggestions, but I'm particularly interested in these two models.
I have owned Dyn's for about 10 years and have really liked them, so that's part of what interests me in the Lyd 48s. I'm hoping and assuming that they might just be a "better" version of what I'm already used to.
The Focal Shape Twins really interest me though. I've read a lot of great things about them and, I am maybe slightly leaning towards them at this point. Plus, I could just keep my Dyn BM5As when I need "that" and use the Focals otherwise.
Either way, I want to move up to 3-ways and both of these are in the ball park of what I'm looking to spend. I might be willing to go up to around $3k for a pair if I felt it was worth it.
Thoughts? How different is the Lyd 48 to the Shape Twin in design philosophy, when it comes to sound and how they translate? Which would you go for and why?

Had them both to demo and liked them both.
kept the focal. I felt the Dyn’s needed a larger room to work best.
Ragan has the dyn’s and love’s them.
The dyn mid range certainly added something special but I also felt the Shape’s seemed to reveal texture in a very detailed way.
Hard to go wrong with either.

I thought you had a different model of Focals? You have the Shape Twins now? As for room size, I'm 24'x30' with RFZ splayed walls over here, so I'm not too worried about my room being too small.

Sorry, I demoed the Focal twins too and yes you are right tried the smaller ones and kept those.
With your room, I think you might then prefer the dyns as in my smaller room, I thought the dyn woofer wasn’t getting its best performance ( a room not a speaker problem),but I loved what the dyn mid speaker was revealing and appreciated the dyn’s real and not hyped tweeter.
The twins seemed a little muddy to me but again, I thought that was my room, so cit to the chase and went to smaller monitors.
For context, I had the amphion 15 and 18’s before and had kept the 18’s for a while.
I ended up getting those small emotiva b1’s that Jim reccommended, inexpensive and sound really good with a subwoofer

I have the LYD48 and also own a set of Dynaudio Air 6 monitors. So, I was pretty familiar with the sound of the Dynaudio speakers. Both of the Dynaudio's that I have are great speakers. But, I primarily work on the LYD48 now. The extra clarity in the midrange has helped me a lot. I also use Sonarworks on both monitors. To me, the LYD48 is a very good monitor and definitely worth considering. I don't have any experience with the Focals, so I can't help there. My mixing room is about 10x20 and I don't have any problems with the speakers being too big for the room.
